Sunroof in 2005 RL

I just bought a 2005 RL and am curious about the sunroof. I have found it hard to know when the sunroof is fully closed and have on a few times noticed that when I thought it was closed it wasn't. Does anyone know if the sunroof should be an auto open or auto close with the touch of a single button like the windows are? I don't want to look like a fool and take it into the dealer to "fix" what isn't actually a problem.

Thanks! I'm assuming there is nothing within the car I can look at or reset to get it to work?

Make sure the track is clear of "stuff" and is greased. Only things I can think of.

Not sure that I mentioned it, but it opens and closes fine I just have to hold the button to open and close it.

It should open or close completely with only one press.

Edit: Page 180, 2006 owner's manual says that you have to press firmly (e.g. press with a slight hold) to get the moonroof open fully. That's the way it works in my car. To quote directly:

Opening/Closing the Moonroof with the Ceiling Console Switch
Turn the ignition switch to the ON (II) position before operating the moonroof switch on the ceiling console. To open the moonroof, pull back the moonroof switch. To close the moonroof , push the moonroof switch forward. Release the switch to stop the moonroof. To open the moonroof fully, pull back the moonroof switch firmly. The moonroof opens all the way. To stop the moonroof from opening fully, push the switch briefly.

2005 RL Sunroof

Mine did the same thing, I replaced the switch in the overhead console and that fixed it. If you push the switch forward and backward firmly and you cannot feel a slight click then it is probably worn out. If the sunroof still moves after you release the switch but stops before fully opening or closing then your problem is not in the switch.

Check out this thread. I used the search term site://rl.acurazine.com sunroof reset

There is a moonroof reset procedure, which may or may not address you problem.

Per the RL Sevice Manual, to reset the Moonroof Control Unit, follow these steps:

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Press and hold the tilt switch and turn the ignition switch ON (II).
3. Release the tilt switch and turn the ignition switch OFF.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 four times.
5. Press and hold the moonroof open switch until 3 seconds after the moonroof is fully opened.
6. Press and hold the moonroof close switch until 3 seconds after the moonroof is fully closed (tilted).
7. Confirm that the moonroof is reset by using the moonroof AUTO OPEN and AUTO CLOSE function.

i have a 05 rl that i bought 3 weeks ago and when i open the sunroof it seems that the ceiling blind that covers it seems to touch and you can hear a click click click sound like its touching it, maybe the suede blind is broken and is touching whenever i want to open sunroof, the blind also get stuck if i open it , i have to open the sunroof the entire way and close it while holding the blind to close both of them at the same time i put some grease but it doesnt seem to help, i think its the blind part that is messed up. any input ?

There is a moonroof reset procedure, which may or may not address you problem.

Per the RL Sevice Manual, to reset the Moonroof Control Unit, follow these steps:

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF. - car is off already, key fob in pocket
2. Press and hold the tilt switch and turn the ignition switch ON (II). - tilt switch? Is that to tilt the sunroof?
3. Release the tilt switch and turn the ignition switch OFF.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 four times. - now the car is off? To do step 5 i must go to key position II or start the car right???
5. Press and hold the moonroof open switch until 3 seconds after the moonroof is fully opened.
6. Press and hold the moonroof close switch until 3 seconds after the moonroof is fully closed (tilted). - tilted would be open in the rear, not fully closed?! See why im confused?
7. Confirm that the moonroof is reset by using the moonroof AUTO OPEN and AUTO CLOSE function.
I must be doing something wrong, please see my comments within the above quote as i need some clarification. Thanks
Or my sunroof doesnt need resetting, but the rear of it does appear to be below the roof line slightly.
Also, what about disconnecting the battery then doing the procedure?

You press the button up for tilt. You press it back to open and forward to close.

The car will be off after step 4. You need to turn the ignition to (II) before step 5.

Thanks for the clarification. I ran the process and it still doesnt seem to sit properly when closed. I compared it to a late model accord that was parked next to me.
How does the sunroof get out of alignment? Looks like ill need to do some hardware adjusting.
