How do you replace the brake light switch?

The switch is on the pedal, are you sure that's the problem?

i think so. brake lights sometimes works fine and then sometimes very dim when brakes are applied.

Right on, grab a flashlight and climb under the dash.
The removal should be pretty easy to figure out.

Could be, that is a critical juncture between the power and the lights.

Is it all 3 lights dimming the same?

More like, unplug, unscrew, remove, reinstall, screw, plug, then play.

Once you see it you'll be like then like then a little then and back to

Brake light semi-dead. SH-AWD/VSA light comes on at times

Hey all, I been searching for 2 days with no luck.

So basically whats happening and whether it's related or not I'm not sure between these 2 problems.

Just to say, Alternator is fine, new Bosch Battery as well.

So when it seems after a 2 week long 2000mile drive around the country the brake light decided to die.
When the brake pedal is stepped on, only a very faint brake light will come on (causing cars behind me to brake late as they can't see my brake light)
The top high mounted brake light does not come on at all.

While the 2 rear rail lights will come on faintly and seem to flicker ever so lightly.

Picture in attachment to show how dim the brake light has become with the high mount brake light completely off.

The SH-AWD and VSA light is also randomly turning on now, sometimes once a day, sometimes once every few days and the SH-AWD gets disabled and I end up with front wheel driver operating only.

I'm not sure but I read the brake sensor may have something to do with both of these symptoms?

Ideas? I've checked all fuses thou I couldn't quite find the rear brake light fuses, would it be a relay that needs replacing?

Thanks in advance!

I remember watching a video about bad brake light switches which Eric the Car Guy more or less describes the issue you were having to a T, minus the dim brake lights, but with all the lights on the dash. He also suggests this is a common issue in "cars of this vintage" Glad Acurazine was helpful!!!

I merged two threads which are relevant since this turned out to be the issue.
