No solution to no cruise control

hello I'm new here with a recently bought black 2002 TL type s. I've had it for about 6 months now and all has been good until recently. The cruise control stopped working

i was using it one minute and the next it would never work again.

The main switch underneath the VSA switch turns green but when I hit set nothing happens nor does the light on instrument cluster illuminate like it use to.

so far I have replaced the buttons on steering wheel, small box under dash next to gas pedals, and the black motor box under the hood to no avail.

Also checked the plastic part that is prone to breaking on throttle body and it is in good condition.

One time the brake light switch grommet broke off and I replaced and I don't think this would cause an issue as the brake light function properly and turn off when pedal isn't pulled.

Sorry for long post but I did a lot of research and can't seem to find the problem I'm having.

Many info would be appreciated guys!

Don't confuse me with somebody that knows much, but FWIW I had similar issues with the CC on my '02 TL.

It wax fixed by my local indie shop by cleaning the switches/buttons in the steering wheel. No charge as it was done while they were doing other work.

I know you you have replaced some parts, but have you verified wiring connectivity? It could be a connector someplace is loose, or a wire broken for some reason.

Just my $0.02, but this may be a time where it is cheaper to take it to a pro who can properly troubleshoot rather than shotgunning replacement parts...

Good luck, and report back!

You may have a bad clock spring (its what transfers the signal in the steering wheel). You can take it apart and clean it. and see if its making proper contact. Also try readjusting your brake pedal switch, it may be just enough to trigger the cruise to not activate.

I'll try it! Also is it possible for the horn and radio control buttons to remain functional with a bad clock spring?
like could it only affect the CC?

Got it fixed today! All it was is the brake switch was not pushed in 100% it was like 99% and it would not allow the cruise to engage. So to all even if your brake lights function properly make sure you check the switch by taping two pennies in between the stopper and the switch so it goes in 100% cause 99% just doesn't work lol

Brake switch was finicky on my '00 TL. Could tap the pedal on the side & kill the CC.
Glad you got it fixed.
