Pretty simple mod if you need a back up camera that works with the navi. Total cost, about $55, including rear license plate lights.
I went through 2 steps, (1) make a video connection piece for the DVD player, (2) buy/install camera.
There is another post on #1, so I won't repeat it. Here is a picture of what I made. I made 3 of them, they are simple, first one worked fine. I bought this kit, which had a 7 pin

My first step was to look at where I wanted to mount the camera and to install the video hookup that I just made. Pretty simple install on the back of the DVD player in trunk, 7-pin connector.
Im typing this in on my phone, grrr, so i may edit it later. Let me know of any questions.
This is a pretty simple mod if you need a back up camera that works with the navi. Total cost, about $55, including rear license plate lights and about 4 hours time.

There is another post regarding the 1st step by someone else, so I won't repeat it. Here is a picture of what I made. I made 3 of them just in case, they are simple, first one worked fine. I bought this kit on AZ, which had a 7 pin connector and pins. U bought some shrink wrap at Home Depot for $2

My first step was to look at where I wanted to mount the camera and to install the video hookup that I just made. Pretty simple install on the back of the DVD player in trunk, 7-pin connector. Follow the advice from the other post.
Next, figure out where to mount the camera. I had to remove the trunk lid liner, which can be done in about 5 min. There is a youtube on how to do it, look for a way to replace your license plate lights, which by the way, you might as well replace them while you have everything apart. By all means, use a trim removal tool (I bought an orange set years ago) or you'll bust those simple white tabs.
This is the license plate trim piece you want to remove once you have the trunk liner removed.
The 2 screws and 4 bolts are easy to remove, the plastic tab was a little difficult at first, but I found using needle nose players and pressing in the 2 sides released it.
Once you have the trim piece release, it should look like this...
This exposes the hole where i ran the wire through the trim piece, which is where the tab was located.
BEFORE MOUNTING CAMERA, test it first. This is important to make sure your 7 pin video lead and camera work.
This is the camera I used...
It comes in white, black or stainless steel color. My car is white, but this camera is a brighter white, but close enough.
To hook up the camera, you need to find the backup light wiring. I found it by watching a youtube video on removing and replacing the backup bulb. Use the driver's side since it is closer to the DVD unit. You will have to peel back the trunk liner by the tail light.
The tail light wiring is wrapped. The positive wire is black and green, the ground is a screw into the frame a little lower.
The camera comes with a secondary positive wire by the male video plug, but you won't need it. Just leave it hang.
I cut the black/green wire, then spliced in the positive wire from the camera, then loosened the ground bolt and added in the camera ground wire.
Once that was done, I plugged in the camera male video plug into the 7 pin connector I made and then tested it out, it worked! It was dark at first, but i was in my garage so my auto lights dimmed everything. It was brighter outside.
Next step was the final mount. Since the license plate trim is plastic, it was easy to drill and no worries about rust. Cover it with tape to prevent splintering, mark your hole and drill.
Next, I used the 3 degree angle piece included with the camera and the base mount piece to give it the proper angle. Again, I tested this before final mount by starting car, putting into reverse and viewing.
Here is a picture of the backup camera on the dash, pardon the glare, it was sunny 🌞.
Nice work! I installed the same camera on my previous 2009 Honda Fit that I sold off. The camera works well especially at night if you install led lights to replace the halogen license plate bulbs.
Nice! I just recently added a back-up cam to my 2nd gen RL as well. I went a different route and added a rearview monitor display which doubles as a dashcam. Also, really helps with the blindspots!
