Front bumper corner molding installation guide anyone?

Hi,

I need to change the front bumper right side molding on my 2008 RL. How hard is it to take out the old one and install the new one?

Thanks for your help.

Best.

Unfortunately the instructions are correct...You have to remove the bumper. Even thou clips and tabs are used, no way I would try to remove from the outside you need to take the bumper off and push the tabs inward and work it off from the inside out. I am speaking from experience.

I would add while you are at it (bumper is off) if you drive a lot at night, have high mileage 75K or greater, or if you have a flickering headlight I would strongly consider changing the HID's while the bumper is off. This may be an opportunity to upgrade your HID's if you would like.

Final comment, if you have a flickering headlight check the bulbs (swap flickering with non flickering HID). If the bulbs are good it's the ballast that is the culprit. You have to remove the bumper to change the ballast too.

I just had to replace both of my corner moldings on my 05 rl and i though i was going to have to remove the bumper also. The stealer quoted me almost $500 in labor to do it for me. What i did was take a microfiber towl and a flat head screw driver and pried up the very corner of the molding closest to the wheel well. For me anyways I got the first clip on the corner to pop out and from there i was able to grab the old molding and work out each of the clips one at a time. Just take your time with each clip to not damage the plastic on the bumper that hold the clip in.

This way would not work if you wanted to keep the current moldings you have but mine were pretty messed up so i didn't care if i damaged the original ones i removed. To install the new ones i just snapped it in place... nothing to it. Took me 20 min max for both sides for removal and installation on both sides. Car looks way better when those fake chrome strips aren't chipped like mine were.

Good luck

My daughter just scratched the front of and I need to replace this piece, it is completely damaged.
Does it come painted, I saw the silver piece and the other below are connected.
What is the P/N and where can I buy one?

One more here - dealer quoted me at $350 to replace left front, plus lower grill piece that was damaged in chrome area - scratched, etc anyhow it peeled off over the time on my 06 RL... I will probably wait until I get HIDs bad as they do flicker once in a blue moon - but worse they get - both will be fixed while bumper is off...

BTW how hard is it to take off the bumper yourself?

Not hard. Just unscrew the screw in each wheel well. Then take a flat bed and just work your way around the clips under the headlights, under the bumper where the deflector is and the engine compartment cover covering for the grille. Then kind of flex the bumper and pull until it comes off.

And the molding comes painted, and around 80-90 dollars each at online acura part stores.

Took me less than 10 minutes. Get a small flathead screwdriver and tape over the end. Insert at the front of the chrome trim. Pry it up abit and it will unsnap all the way around.

I cleaned out the dust/dirt in the grove, the started with the new piece on the tire side. Snap, snap, snap, snap all the way around and you are done.

If only the fog lights were that easy.

Yea it all just pops out. Not sure why one would need to remove the bumper or pull anything back. And the clips should either be in the bumper or the molding peice.

I took mine to my body shop and they used a nylon tool to pry off the old corner molding and then installed the new one. Took all of 2 minutes and no need to remove the bumper.

the chrome piece of the bumper molding protector on the front passenger side is flaking off. I guess I have to replace the entire molding right? not just the chrome piece?

would the front passenger side be the Left or Right piece? I am assuming "left", so #7 in this diagram?

nevermind...figured it out...passenger side = right side....doh!

so, to remove this, start at the side that is away from the wheels first and work your way back to the wheel side? did you pry it off from the top or the bottom?

My Chrome is flaking on right bumper side moldings. So I do need to purchase the entire molding? Seems like there should be a way just to purchase the Chrome molding.

Has anyone contacted Acura about the fake chrome?? Should not be on a 50k plus car. All 4 corners bad on my 05, believe sun is the cause but this is a sub standard part. Dont see it on Toyotas or older Acuras. Think Acura owes us a break.

Gonna have to go with an 8 year old bumper piece not being part of anything "owed". By your logic, a $50k car shouldn't be sitting in the sun, and I agree.

In addition, the company has to make money somewhere. People are already pissed the RLX is brushing $60k even though a Ford will run you $40k and a 3-series will run you $54k. I don't think people truly grasp the idea of inflation.
