Transmission filter?

Hi, I was wondering if there is a transmission filter in the 09 TL AWD? If there is one, how often do we need to replace it? Where is it located?

Yes, there is one. It is located on the left side of the case. I haven't looked exact location yet but looking at the diagram below, its not hard to get to it. I would say once every 2 years its a good idea to do that. Being a bit anal I use to change it on my old '03 Accord (J30A4 engine) once a year with the tranny oil drain and re-fill. If you do change it make sure you change the rubber o-ring too and cover the ring with a bit of oil to slide it in easily. One thing that is a bit annoying sometimes is that the filter is held back with a spring that fits right behind it. That is a bit of a hassle to get it positioned as you replace the filter, but not all that impossible to get it fitted in there. Have fun, don't over tight those bolts

(number 2 in the diagram)

Can't wait until spring time when I'll do a drain and refill to change that and post some pictures.

Has anyone with a 4g TL changed their auto transmission filter yet?

From reading around other forums and this one in the 3g section it seems like our tranny filters may not be serviceable without doing major work.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the AWD tranny filter and the FWD tranny filter location?

Lastly, does anyone know if the pressure switch for our tranny should be swapped out after a while like those on the 3g auto transmissions?

Thanks!

I've done some research and what I've deduced for the 4G.
5 speed auto: Has trans filter but not serviceable without removing transmission.
It's behind the torque converter. Why????
6 speed auto: Has an inline filter located below the battery.
FWD & SH-AWD utilize the same filter. PN: 25430-PLR-003

It is serviceable. Pretty straightforward to change. I'm doing mine over the weekend with a 3x3 trans oil change too. Bought both from Amazon for pretty cheap compared to Acura/Honda Dealers.

it can if the filter is clogged, and it's good to replace so the filter doesn't fall apart after 100k miles. Usually bad shifts are caused by an incorrect amount of friction modifiers in the trans fluid (drain and refill with DW-1 fluid), incorrect pressure from the sensors or leaking pressure past seals on valve body.

I'm on the same path about to do the same, quick question did you change the filter before or after the fluid change?

I changed transmission oil filter in my 2012 TL, when the card had roughly 70K miles on it. The reason I had to change mine was due to a gurgling sound I was hearing soon after first start in the morning. I believe there is an Acura TSB about this same issue.
Old filter was fully clogged with sludge.
Filter is inline filter located below the battery. Only challenge I had was removing one mounting bolt below batter mounting. But some patience I managed to do it.
You would need a bent long nose pliers to remove hose spring clamps rubber and hoses.

I don't think it matters the order as the filter is positioned way above the transmission casing/housing. I have been changing the ATF every 10K since new on my TL base, and I have done with ATF filter twice as of 85K miles. Transmission shifts beautifully and flawlessly. I'd opt for a filter from the dealership as there are knock-offs for sale on Ebay/Amazon. $30 from Bernardi Acura online is a small price to pay to preserve such an important/expensive mechanism.

Good luck!

2007 Acura TL

Well my baby started shifting funny again so I dropped her off for a trans flush and fill and a filter change. My mechanic told me it could also be the torque converter. I last did a flush at 119K miles and I now have like 137 so I'll pick her up tomorrow and hope she back running smoothly.

Witmoe-Could be in need of AT software update, check with the dealer and see if you are eligible.
