Front end noises when going over bumps

Hi there,

My first post here.

I have a 2008 RDX. When I drive over bumps in the road, be they potholes or just uneven surfaces, I hear noises coming from the front of the car. From the inside of the car, it sounds like a knock. From outside (heard when windows are open) it sounds more like a clank. (I hope that makes sense.)

Here's the interesting part: When I apply the brakes when driving over the bumps in the road the noises stop. I've had the car looked at numerous times by my dealer and no one seems to know what is causing these noises.

Other threads I've read here on Acurazine indicate it may be a loose brake caliper, engine mounts or shocks, etc. No one else has indicated that application of the car's brakes results in the noises stopping.

Does anyone have any ideas on what is causing these noises?

Thanks in advance.

Check everything around here^. Sounds like maybe the top mount for the shock. Check that all fasteners are tightened to spec.
One side or both?

The sounds are coming from both sides. It really sounds bad, like something is about to fall off (but nothing ever does fall off thank goodness)!

I have very similar problems with mine but its only when its cold outside and when the car hasnt really warmed up yet. Took it to the dealer multiple times on the issue and they have come up with every excuse why its happening, anywhere between my roof rack cross bars being loose to my back seat being loose. So i finally got fed up with it and asked a good friend of mine who is a former Honda Tech and he said that its actually a common problem they dealt with on Honda's that they brought in to his shop and the problem is also not a rarity in Acura's (Acura just doesnt like to admit faulty suspension construction apparently). What he has told is that these cars tend to have bad front strut assemblies and that the bushings tend to act up in cold weather or when the car just isnt warmed up. I will check back with him on where you can go to verify this and present that info to an Acura dealership, which should get your issue fixed.

Thanks for your input. At my dealer's suggestion, I had the struts replaced earlier this year. However, the noise persists. (!!!!) I have an appointment on Saturday to have them look yet again based on the suggestions received in this thread.

Well thats great to hear that we are making a difference somewhere. My deler said that they wouldnt use this as a reference because its not an official, accredited, acura bulletin

I would check the brake rotor cover and make sure all the bolts are tight. dont just shake and play with it. This was the fix for my similar issue.

i was having the same problem.

dealership told me this noise was my brake pad, they confirmed by placing a shim behind the pad itself and recommended new pads (even though they are new) and a new hardware kit (pad retainer clips)

so im letting it go until i need new pads.
