Valve tick or injector click or ?????

I was changing the accessory belt tensioner today and i figured i'd get a video of my ticking noise.

It is only there under 1200 rpms and hot or cold make no difference. I've had this noise for well over a year, it has not gotten worse during this time.

At around 22 seconds the idle comes down and you can clearly hear it:

Right away sounds like valve train noise, so i think my tick is something else.

Thoughts?

PS. I have already done a valve adjustment and that made no difference. Sitting at 94k for mileage, original timing belt and components. Power and mpg are normal.

Unfortunately the sound recording of a phone is really not the best thing to try and interpret a weird noise, to be honest, it almost all sounded the same to me except at the end, it sounded like the idler pulley bearing going bad.

When was your timing belt done? And if it was, was the valve adjustment done at the same time?

Wow, I forgot I created this thread, its been awhile.

I still have the ticking noise. I changed t belt around 104k, everything was replaced including the tensioner pulley. This was probably 2 years ago?? I'd have to dig up some receipts.

I have 119k on it now.

Have you ever checked that your spark plugs are torqued down?

I used to have a slight ticking noise and I noticed it went completely away after I found my #5 cylinder spark plug three full rotations loose.

If you haven't check all your spark plugs, I would make sure they are all tightened down correctly.

Yes I changed the plugs around 95k and have checked them since when I did valve clearance adjustments. Nice and snug.

there are two tensioner, one for the TB and the other one for drive belt. Also check your alternator make sure the baring did not go bad.

If you read the first post you'll see i changed tensioner for the drive belt and if you watch the video you'll see the drive belt isn't on, therefore it is not the alternator or another other belt driven accessory.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, OP, have you figured out this issue? I've had the same exact problem for a year now and NO ONE is able to figure out what it is! I've spent countless hours digging through forums and youtube videos and facebook pages, you name it, and everyone has a different answer, no one seems to know exactly what this issue is even though several people are experiencing it. Any information would be extremely appreciated. I'm so sick of this problem, it's driving me insane.

Thank you.

IMO, that's too loud to be injectors. Certainly could be a loose valve. Have either of you ever had the valve clearance checked?

I am also having this noise but maybe not as loud. I can hear the engine sounding like a diesel on idle. OP - did you change hydraulic tensioner and tensioner roller pulley when you did your TB job?
