I am cautiously optimistic of your results as it is highly impossible to gain 51 HP from a N/A engine with an ECU tune, boosted engine yes.

Don't get me wrong, would love it if the TL could produce these numbers.
Sure thing,
Dyno was a mustang dyno
Ambient air temp was around 89 degrees Fahrenheit.
I'm in Orlando so elevation is right around sea level

You didn't really mention if there were breaks in between runs or that he at least waited for temperatures to cool down before running again, so I'll add this info for everyone as well.

Running with the ECT in the 170s (176 being the target) is key to repeatable dyno tuning. This is Honda's target normal operating temperature for most platforms and where no timing adjustments will be made against the current ECT temp. A lot of tuners will continue running the vehicle over and over and these TLs get hot quick. With three runs on top of each other, starting at 174, we saw upwards of 205 degree ECTs. At 203 ECT the ECU is pulling 5 degrees of timing and causing substantial power loss. This is on top of any existing knock retard that's already being applied. Good info for anyone attempting to tune these vehicles.
there were no breaks really.(which is was kinda of worries about, tuning for 3 hours with no break)
When we pulled 321 the ect was around 180ish but after that pull it started to climb to 212ish so that may contribute to the loss of power. after we couldn't get similar numbers we reverted to using the base tune #1 that comes pre loaded with the ktuner, maybe I might try doing an Etune and getting redynod to see.
We also started seeing 1 knock ping after that pull but not during that 321 pull

Ya, that could explain the variance. I still haven't heard from your tuner, but I'll definitely give him the same suggestions I mentioned in the previous posts.

I'm not sure what's going with them not emailing you, before I left the shop he said he sent you an email, probably didn't, they are closed today.
Here are the images for the 3 numbers I mentioned, only got pic of 1 powerband

Does anyone have a tuner on here they recommend? I'll get them to do my Etune and go redyno and post the results

TurbogixxerTuning is also in Florida, south of you, but he does offer e-tuning and remote tuning services.

Thanks! I'll send them a note! Do you happen to know if they have a dyno?
I would like to drive down and record the process for the forums

He has dyno access. I doubt he'll let you record what he's doing, but you can certainly record the dyno runs of the vehicle.

All of the Emails we have received are answered. Let me know if you have not got anything

As james said, TL tuning is very picky to conditions and knock control. It would not drop 50whp out of no where.

With the mods you mentioned if you manage to put 321whp down and lock in that tune that's wild. That would change my entire perspective on the TL as a platform for mods/tuning.

I'm attaching one of the dyno sheets from our testing and the same sheet with circles pointing out some areas of interest. We spent a lot of time collecting data on the dyno and made some interesting discoveries about the platform that I missed on the first vehicle I tuned since I didn't have nearly the same amount of time with the vehicle. Once again I want to thank RV6 for providing the dyno access and actually coming through on delivering the graphs. I also want to thank the guys who helped with original testing and the owner of this 2012 SH. We're currently waiting on Big Mo to come back in and get us stock and possibly JPIPE numbers with the new tunes. He had a mechanical issue which prevented us from dynoing and has taken it to the dealer. A release with new tunes for the SH will follow after we finish that up.

The red line on the graph is how this 2012 SH AT came in on the factory tune. You can see it was running extremely rich and is just lacking on top end smoothness. HFPCs helped lean the vehicle out a bit, but it was still on the extremely rich side. With tuning fuel and ignition we successfully picked up power through the entire range and smoothed out top end power, which after peak was up to a roughly 14-15hp gain. That's comparing the tune which held power on the top vs the factory tune where power is dropping after peak power was made. It provides a completely different experience on the top end now.

When looking at the results keep in mind this is a mustang dyno, which reads lower by default, the vehicle was an AT trans, and it's AWD. Taking those things into account the gains are pretty substantial. I would hope this would clear up any misconceptions of whether tuning can do something for this, and other, platforms in the Honda/Acura family.

We are still looking for a local FWD 3.5 to do the same testing on, as the tunes will not be the same.

I've stated before E-tuning and dyno tuning will always provide a more tailored tune to your setup and will allow the tuner to get more aggressive with it. These tunes are going to be included, but still leave some room for individual improvements so they're safe.

Factory vs HFPCs vs HFPCs Tuned

Points of interest for tuning the TL SH.

Now this is some fucking results!

We've got a dyno-proven tuning solution that shows the benefits of the Ktuner on top of what we already knew gave us some power.

Mustang or not, we see the actual horsepower gains (229 - 253) and torque (205-220)

Great to see some dyno results! Hopefully this serves as reassurance to those who were skeptical. Great to see the system is functioning as designed for the 4G!

Good to see you on the boards Kenny! I've actually called you a couple times recently with some questions and am planning on heading down your way in December to get a tune. I look forward to working with you.

Bronco, there's so many companies in this business that forget that providing a great product is only 1/2 the business, customer service is the other 50%; Kenny has both down pat.

I'm actually driving down this weekend to visit Kenny and get my car tuned.
I'm seeing lots of praises about him, both on the forums and his Facebook page. I'm excited to see what he can pull out of my car and how his service is.

So I'm guessing that everyone here tuning their car with Kenny is doing an etune? Is this effective as doing a dyno tune? I've heard nothing but great reviews about Kenny so I am definitely interested.

Nice, glad to hear that! My first impression of him was favorable as he's answered quite a few of my questions in detail and was never in a rush to get me off the phone.

That's great! Do you have FWD or AWD? Also, what performance mods do you have? I'm excited to hear about the results. Hoping to see you at a meet some time in Orlando. I've only been to one but I was the only 4G.

Brandon and I will be doing a dyno tune since we're only a few hours away from him. KK is doing the etune and he's been happy with it so far.

Good to hear, I didn't know that he does dyno tunes as well. I thought he only he only did etune's and remote tuning. Definitely interested in doing an etune with Kenny though because of how well he knows Honda/Acuras. I know a great dyno tuner down here about a hour away that was actually recommended by KTuner as well but the price is a little high for me for dyno tune+KTuner product but in the end I want my car to be tuned to the best it can be so I'm trying to decide between an etune and dyno tune.

I didn't really know of any meets in orlando. I got the FWD model.
I got
P2R Throttle Body Spacer
Takeda Intake
RV6 HFPC
ATLP Jpipe
ATLP Test Pipe
Borla Mufflers

Base run with mods at Central FLorida Turbo

Base run with all mods
Final run after 4 hours of tuning at central florida turbo

After 4 hours of tuning
We only got 321 about 2 times and couldnt replicate it again.

Thats why im driving down to see kenny, since is more experienced with Ktuner and tuning newer honda/acuras.

54hp from tuning? I believe we have an idea of the hfpc and what is unlocked when you add ktuner, is that the most bang for the buck of the boltons?

Here are the results from driving down to see Kenny(TurboGixxer) to tune my FWD TL.

Base run of 261WHP, Final tune of 277WHP.

Note that the air temp was at 95 degrees F and the humidity was at 65%.
My previous dyno/tune the air temp was at 88 degress, i do not recall the humidity.

Yeah, Autos do not fully lock so you will see slip at lower RPMS.

This is all I needed to see. I have the AWD but I'm sure with the 6-Speed should work wonders.

SH-AWD should see a good boost in power from stock to Ktuner. We are playing with them more and seeing what they like.

I posted a dyno from the SH-AWD earlier on this page. Good gains, especially on the top end after peak. Those tunes will be available in an update today.

Also available for all TLs will be sensor disables for Front and Rear O2s, EGR, VTP, ELD, and others.
