THE Bay Area Chat Thread (Part Trois)
looks like my bbk project just jumped ahead of my going lower project. got a deal on the RL calipers i couldnt pass up. 215 tires for my front wheels will have to wait now and so will the installation of the stiffer and shorter springs. my plan to redo my alarm install is on hold indefinitely and so is the redoing of my trunk setup.
everything i plan gets twisted around, lol. wasnt planning on doing these brakes till next year... then comes acurafest with the raffle for the SS lines and now an awesome deal on calipers which are hard to find.
build cost so far on the BBK project:
already purchased:
RL Calipers (already rebuilt): $370
Fastline SS Brake Lines: $5 in raffle tickets
to buy still:
Powdercoating for the Calipers (~$50)
HONDA decals for after i grind off the ACURA logo (~$10)
EBC 12.8" Rotors for 350Z ($180-$200)
EBC Red Stuff pads ($85-$95)
Custom Bracket made by NVA-AV6 ($135)
some good brake fluid (any suggestions???)
this would put me right around the entry level price of a 4piston 12.6" wilwood BBK that for a FACT makes squealing noises in almost all installations ive seen on the accord.
OEM Performance Upgraded > Aftermarket

the ones pictured are 20x10 with a 32 offset.
On another note, anyone interested in a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens for a Canon for $350 OBO? If so, PM me.

Damn Vimal. It's gonna be a quality upgrade.
Maybe we'll have our BBK's completed at the same time.
I just need to get new rotors for my Rotora's and then I'm throwing those bad boys on!
We'll have to a BBK Photoshoot...lol
But I almost forgot that I need to get new wheels too...to clear the f*n BBK's!

haha, for sure noah.
as you guys know, the RL calipers say ACURA on them and i for one didnt want to leave it like that so i planned to grind off the ACURA and install a HONDA decal of some sort. problem was that i really dont like the HONDA font, its too old school looking for me. the ACURA font on the other hand is clean looking so i started looking for the ACURA font all over the place online and the only thing i came up with was an NSX font which is too wide and short and even when tweaked in photoshop just doesnt look the same. so i spent hours trying to figure out what to do and came up with nothing, no JDM logos or anything fit the bill for what i was looking for.
so being how i am, in my head the decision was already made and set in stone, somehow get the ACURA font and write out HONDA. and since i came up empty handed i got reaalllllly creative. i busted out my OG photoshop skills and manually turned ACURA into HONDA like so....
H= take the upright column of the R, duplicate it and space them apart, and add a cross beam to make the H.
O= take the C (or U), duplicate it, flip the copy horizontally and attached the two Cs together to make the O
N= take the upright column of the R, duplicate it and space them apart, then take a 3rd column, extend it and connect the opposing corners to make my N.
D= take the C and the upright of the R, put them together and flip it horizontally to make the D.
A= i used the same A.
BINGO!!!!!
and i got this logo which will be going on my Caliper after i have the decal made in the exact size. i've decided on Silver powdercoat for the caliper to match the rims and have the decal and the 4 bolts in gloss black.
top logo is obviously my custom work, bottom one is the untouched acura font.

and dont worry, i have this thing in a huge high res EPS/AI/PNG file so its ready to go for the decal shop
i got suuuuuuuuuuper lucky and found the .AI file for the ACURA logo online and the rest was history

WOW VIMAL! $5 SS Brakelines FTW! Hope ur up for a drive for next years a-fest (ALL OF THE BAY ACTUALLY) unless we can find a suitable Casino location that can do what chuckchansi did for under 4K. The only options we have so far for next year are in SO-CAL

the problem i see with that is that the R and A are still easily identifiable as R and A with the cuts. but if i put a cut in the H on the right side of the horizontal bar, then to some degree, it no longer looks like and H, instead looks like a sideways T and and I

I'm sorry but that's pretty lame. Now I know not to go to their shows...
its nothing new, many shows today are like that. espeically wekfest in japantown, sf.
i can understand it for actual SHOWS, not hyped up meets like all the hellaflush and stanceworks stuff is. if you have to pay to register and there is judging and whatnot, and the general public has to pay to attend... then im all for pre screening because the public has to get their money's worth but for all these fancy meets, which is all they are really... its not cool, unless of course space is VERY limited but in this case it wasnt.
