Hello Everybody,
I'm a retired GM dealership technician with a lifetime love of all vehicles, especially ones that go fast, make purposeful engine sounds and are beautiful. I came here because my oldest son is giving me his beloved 2007 TL Type S with 6 spd. manual. He's had it for 7 years, bought it with 60K and added 210,000 more. He's unaware of the timing belt ever having been changed or the valves adjusted although he has kept up with "regular" maintenance.(And some say miracles don't happen.) It has been using oil for a long time and coating the back end with it but he didn't stop driving it until cyl. #1 lost all compression. He fretted over what to do until I pointed out how he'd gotten his money's worth from it and found a few TL Type S's with manuals and more recent gen. 4 SH-AWD models with manuals for sale so he picked up a 2010 in Atlanta and his problem became mine. I'll probably replace the engine and the original clutch and am on SS so I'll be looking to gather as much information as possible before buying the parts and pulling it apart. In the meantime I will be scouring the threads looking for information and reading the experiences of others so I will give advice, when appropriate, if I think it can be helpful. I look forward to sharing with other like-minded enthusiasts.
I hope everybody's doing well.
