Hi everyone, I bought a 2004 Acura TL recently with 272,000 kms which is a lot. It was a mistake on my part to not have fully gone in detail before the purchase. According to my mechanic the Transmission is fucked, regardless of that i had transmission flush, oil change, all fluids checked/changed, NGK spark plugs put in, and new battery installed by him. All this costed me 450 dollars so far.

For transmission his quote was 2000 CAD, he said that includes labour and he will be supplying a transmission with under 100k kms on it. I declined for now because according to me since the recent maintenance i had done, the car shifts a lot smoother even at high speeds and drives better. At the same time my brother in law has had the same mechanic for couple of years and he hasn't costed him excessive amounts of money on repairs, meaning he is not money hungry so i wonder if the transmission is really in a bad condition.

The timing belt has not been changed I believe as the previous owner was careless. I am not sure and dont know how to tell if it needs changing, along with water pump.

I live in Calgary Canada so the winters can get harsh but i cannot afford to have winters and summers so i prefer all season tires. Costco has quoted me 600-650 CAD installed Michelin Performance All Season, not exactly sure which ones they were but they said they are one of the best and the only ones they have for my TL.

Luckily the Interior is in good shape apart from center console driver side trim having some dents in it. Dont know where to find it online but I have seen some videos on how to replace it which is simple.

Front bumper is damaged, dont know if this is repairable, as their is a crack underneath also. Minor scuff on driver side rear wheel well.

Passenger Headlight is not the same colour as the driver side headlight for some reason. Mechanic said it had some weird wiring and suggested i leave it as only way to fix it is to buy a new oem headlight which costs 835$ according to him. I can go for aftermarket headlights if they are decent quality or if there are cheap oem offers, so far they haven't been cheap any where.

These are all the problems with the car, and all this makes me wonder if i should keep it or sell it. Its been for sale for the price i paid for it and it hasnt been sold in the last 2-3 months. Now I am stuck with it so I really do not know what to do and will Appreciate any help, also I apologize for the mess in the post above.

Pictures are posted Below!

Thank you.

Good morning type94!
Honestly, it sounds like you cannot afford to maintain this car in its current state.
sell it and get something cheaper that you can afford to maintain.

Its also probably not cost effective to continue down the path of this car considering the plethora of issues.

affordability of the car is not an issue. I wanted to know if it's worth the time and money. I'm coming from a e39 540i which had its share of problems but this car has been a curse on me.

it is an affordability issue.
you cannot financially maintain or fund the repairs, if you could you would have ALREADY fixed the car.

THIS particular car is too much for you. THIS particular car would be a headache for me, as well.
either spend a little more to grab a cleaner example, or fix this particular car.
