MA thread
Thanks, chief. I have been looking for good pricing on acid dipping (to remove clear), media blasting (to remove paint down to the metal) and then powder coating.
Rimpro- Even thou they are specialists and I have seen their work but the price ($180 per wheel) is just way out of my budget. I can get a set of brand new 18" A-spec wheels for the price they are thinking of charging me to do my set.
Royal Powder Coating Inc -- Based in Lawrence, MA; I was given a quote of $340 to do all four. My only issue with this company is that over the phone the guy sounded a tad, how should I say this, like he didnt know what we were talking about.
Nationwide Powdercoating -- Based out of Lawrence, MA as well, their quote was $200 but that was only to powdercoat, no prepping or media blasting as they dont have the equipment to do that on their premises.
Central Mass Powdercoating -- Based in Clinton, MA. Out of all the people that I spoke to this guy knew exactly what he was talking about, explained to me in detail as to how the wheels will be prepped and powdercoated. Price is $600 for a set of 4
, again out of my budget.
I might end up taking a trip to Royal Powdercoating and talk to the guy in person to see how good their work is etc.
Last time I had any wheels powdercoated they were the 17" OEM 3G TL ones, the guy did a great job fixing all the curb damage that the previous owner had caused onto the wheels. I paid $300 through a mutual friend but sadly my friend is not friends with that guy any more
so there goes that option.
Another issue with powdercoating is the choice of colors, I am looking to get the same color gun metal that the A-specs come in but the gun metal that most of these shops are offering is way darker, almost black or dark gray.
Seems like these guys paint the wheels rather than powdercoating them, I might check out their work/prices if nothing else works out, thanks.
If the tech knows what they are doing and the wheels are prepped good before powder coating is applied then you shouldnt be able to see any curb marks once they are done.
Yeah, I'll be calling them next week to see what their prices are, reason I dont want to spend a ton of cash on the whole thing is that at some point it just isnt financially feasible to spend $600 or so on powder coating etc when you can get a new set of A-spec wheels for a $100 or so more.
BTW exhaust sounds good, it should mellow out and the little bit of rasp should go away after a few thousand miles

guys name is Phil Newcomb and he works out of his house but his oven is big enough for wheels - Tell him Derek with the stoptech candy red BBK sent you
Phil - 508.328.5176
He did my brakes and they came out mint
i still think the 4.0 is overkill. theres no point of doing the tsx 6th and a 4.0, your 6th gear will go to like 240mph, i barely use my 6th gear and it tops at 210. @80mph im at 3krpms. not sure what your going to be at, but im sure at 3krpms with tsx 6th and 4.0 you would be at like 90 or 100 and way outta boost
Timmy and I bitch!!!! it would be sick for HW pulls in 4th just keep going and going... haha
That is good info, I am still unsure leaning more toward 4.3FD
Ya that is what im talking about Just Cruising - Will Smith song MIB sound track haha crsx makes there own btw time it is about 500 buck I think.

welcome and congrats, very nice! the dealership gave me that as a loaner last year, good times!
where about are you in MA?
there is one coming in Boston on 10/29, check out the thread.
I'm in the same boat as Jeff. My car won't be back on the road again until the spring of 2012. It was on jack stands all summer long because of tranny damage. After I got it all back together and on the road again, the motor dropped a valve the next day.
That's not exactly practical advice when you consider how much money and work I've already put into the k series I have.
I already have a k24a2 from an 05 TSX, a better flowing k20a2 head to replace the damaged k24a2 head, AP1 S2000 valve springs, IPS KSC '11 cams (1 of 5 sets made before IPS closed their doors again), CT-E SC, NoriBilt aftercooler, custom machined straight TB inlet, k20a2 oil pump, and all the other supporting mods.
A j series swap would be an absolute waste of money since I would have to start over completely. The j series aftermarket support is pretty much non-existant compared to k series aftermarket support. There are very few aftermarket parts available for the j and current ECU tuning options are garbage compared to kpro. The worst part is that the most powerful j32 makes less power than my k24a2 before I upgraded the cams and valvetrain.
It makes much more sense for me to bring my block to ERL and have them sleeve and deck the block and assemble it with aftermarket rods and pistons and acl race bearings.

Hahaha. I'm looking forward to going down to ERL and getting a tour of their shop. Probably going to be after Christmas though. I have too much going on with work right now. Gotta go to NYC after Thanksgiving.

Hey Jeff, I like the new setup...did u get it tuned yet? Is that the Full-race setup or sumthing else?
Hey Tim, the K24 setup that u're doing is WAAAAAAAY better then doing the J32! I can vouch for that since i did the same to mine...I had a friend who was running a stock K24A2 w/ the JRSC kit on 25 dry shot of NOS and his car made quite a bit of power..345 whp, 302 lbs/tq...he didn't even swap out the head yet to the K20...i sold my car before i could do the head...was gonna do the K20 swap w/ exactly the same IP KSC cams u're doing...by far, one of the best cams to do...just wondering but which manifold are u running? RBC or PRC? any plans on a bigger TB like a 70mm? port match the manifold...r u running a 3" exhaust? makes me miss my EP3...

and he's my G as it sits now..

I've always liked the K because aftermarket support and tuning options for the J are practically nil. I want to do a J swap in a different shell, but not my Accord.
Anyway, the Comptech SC kit replaces the intake manifold, so that's what I'm using. I'm going to port match the manifold to the head after I get it ported and polished. I replaced the restrictive TB inlet on the SC with a straight inlet. I have a RSX 62mm TB right now, but I'm planning on getting the Hybrid Racing 74mm TB when I upgrade to the MPx90 SC. I replaced my exhaust with a 4-1 header with 1 7/8" primaries that go to a 3" collector. It's 3" all the way back until the split (because I wanted to keep the dual exhaust), and then it's 2 1/2" after the split.

Lol
