Funny Traffic Stop Stories

I was reading another thread and as I refreshed my memory about some of my traffic stops - some of these are funny. I hope you don't mind if I share:

In no particular order:

1. Stopped by MSP on I-95 for 75 in 55. Written warning. I was in wife's '94 Legend (mint). Tpr asked what kind of wax I used. He said the car looked brand new. (love that story) (Age 29).
2. Stopped by Boston PD in early 90's during Operation Desert Storm. He knew I was in Air Guard. Asked me if I thought I would get activated. I said I was not sure. He said "well if you keep blowing thru yellow lights you might not get a chance". Good one! (age 24?)
3. Stopped by Maine Trooper on 2 lane highway. I was in Chevy Z24 with digital dash that was broken (go figure). I was lead vehicle in 3 car caravan. Trooper pulled 180 and only stopped me. I explained the dashboard and that the other drivers were "pushing" me faster. He told me to slow down. (I thought I was dead meat) (age 21)
4. Same thing above happened in NH by local cop. But nobody pushing me. Cop accepted the speedometer was out and let me go with warning. (age 21)
5. Stopped by NH Trooper for being stupid and trying to pass a car on Rt. 16. It was a passing zone but I ran out of room - I knew the Tpr was a few cars behind. I had a young child in the backseat. The Tpr was very cool, he explained "I had precious cargo on board". That sunk in way more than any ticket. (age 33 and old enough to know better)

Reading thru these I sound like a crazy driver - but I have CHANGED! I rarely exceed the speed limit by 5 or 10mph. In a 65 zone, I usually set the cruise to 70. On local roads I am very careful - since I find the most speed traps there. Accident free since 1990.

Do any of you have funny ticket stories to share??

Naahh not crazy. Actually seeing the way people drive around here it sounds pretty benign.

I've been pulled over twice, on the same road in marshfield. Once when I was 16 and once two months ago. I'm bringing this one to court since the speed limit goes form 35 to 25. Cop didnt give me a chance to slow down. I swear they used that road for emergency revenue.

btw, just a reminder to everyone... MA statutes have changed and when you appeal a moving violation... you have to pay $25 for the first appeal, and $50 to appeal it again to a judge.... found that out when i appealed my ticket from August for 65 in a 55 at 3:30am....

65 in a 55??? That is nukkin futz. I would have been ticked off and fought it too. Depending on the stretch of highway in this state - 55 can get you killed! Try 128 or Rt3 at rush hour. 80mph + seems the norm.

Did you beat the ticket??? I hope so!

gotta go to court on the 10th of nov. the ticket was at like 3:30am on rt 2. he was sitting off to the side of the fast lane at a usual spot. i clutched in and was about to slow down but the way he positioned himself he got me alot sooner then normal. normally at this one hiding spot they sit perpendicular to the highway wedged in behind the trees but he was parked parallel with his lights off......

pulled me over, i explained how i was broke, just graduated college cant find a job cuz he asked about all my previous exhaust tickets ... and he came back gave me a ticket and said the only reason he is giving me a ticket is because he doesnt wanna clean up my mess after i hit a deer..... cuz 65 is much of a difference between 55...

Good luck with the ticket. Sounds like he was a jerk based on his comments.

I drive mostly 495 and 93 and they are out there with the lidar(?) guns all the time. It amazes me how people go by at 80mph and they ignore them. You never know what catches their attention.

During my morning commute, they sit at the River Rd, S. Lawrence offramp or at the 495/93 cloverleaf. I see them on 495 N coming down the hill to 93. Still - I see cars pass me at 80+ and I figure they are toast only to see them keep going.

I was pulled over in Marlborough a few years ago doing 45 in a 35 by MSP. The trooper looked at my license and asked if I gained weight. He gave me a written warning because he said I seemed like a "good guy".

I was pulled over in Berlin for going over the speed limit in an area where it drops from 35 to 25, and you can't see the 25 MPH sign. The officer was funny and said, "My captain is going to hang me for this..." and then gave me a written warning.

Last year on my way home from a holiday party in NY, and I was pulled over on 84 right after the CT/MA border. He pulled me over because my license plate light was out and then blamed it on the installers that put in my reverse camera. I just played dumb and said I would fix it. I wasn't going to tell him that I was the installer and that my fiance accidentally broke the light when she opened my trunk.
