Anyone remove their tints themselves?

so i got busted for my 28% tints by a MA state trooper last week and cited $250. 2 years and i get nothing from boston cops and they dont even look twice and bored staties got me heh. oh well i've been debating going legal since its getting harder and more expensive to pay shops off for inspection around boston but i wanted to take them off myself since the few places i called are charging $80-100 just for tint removal.

does anyone here have experience doing this and have any tips? i've heard using a steam cleaner makes the job easier.

also, the trooper said if i got them taken off or legal they'll waive the fine but i know thats completely up to the judge if i request a hearing so was he completely BS'n me?

any input/advice would be appreciated.

I had to remove my tints to pass inspection, it was a very sad day The steamer would def help, but I didn't use one. I'd say use a razor to make small sections and peel off VERY slowly, this is especially important for your rear window! You may be left with some glue marks, but an armoral window wipe and some elbow grease will take it off.
If I could manage to do it myself you should have no issues.

I removed the tint from a previous car a few years ago.

Definately use a razor. I used a heat gun on the first window I did and that was horrible. It just made the glue soft and it was hard to get the tint off.

Get one of these. They usually are sold at the registers in auto parts stores:

Aim for the edges of the tint, it'll scrape off easier.

I have no experience with MA courts, but in NY and VA 99% of they will waive the fine for any equipment violation that is fixed before the court date.

ammonia (and a razor) will help get the glue off once the tint has been removed.

You can get that same pictured razor at Home Depot. I got one a while ago for another project. I think it was $1 or so. Might be cheaper than an auto place and as then it will be a "specialized car razor".

man I had 5% on my Accord for like 2yrs here and just got pulled over last week, but only got a written warning citation, but in the process of removing, def use a very sharp razor and if you use lacquer thinner or some clean solvent soak a cloth with it and place it on the glue part it makes life much easier when using the razor..stuff comes off like butter...but on a sidenote I am on going to remove my front windows and ride like that and see what happens...good luck either way, I would offer to help you remove that tint but I'm always doing something or late working.......

oh and also def go to court you will most likely end up not paying as long as you show that ur window tint has been removed, had a buddy go to court and he didnt pay the fine

Double Tint

Hey everyone, I was wondering if any of you guys had tips to remove two layers of tint? I have an 03 TL Type S, and my dad is getting me new tint but I tried removing it yesterday and it way more complicated than the people on YouTube made it seem..So anyways, I have one layer of dark tint, and the other layer looks like clear tint? It's difficult to get off and I used a razor and a steamer and nothing. A couple shitty looking pieces came off but not much.
