F1 to stay at Indy

Apparently talks have proved fruitful as the Brickyard is reporting the USGP is set to be extended beyond its contract date which ended on raceday this year.

They should move it to the Meadowlands.

That would be doomed to failure. The NYC crowd (in general) does not regard auto racing as a sport. (Personally, I would love to see some F1 racing in NYC proper...sort of like Forza MotorSport.)

Have you been to Indy yet F-C? Man, sometimes you're the biggest downer dude.
And BTW, what racing facility is at the Meadowlands and moreover, who wants to go there?

Sweet. I was there and got general admission seats for 60 bucks for Sat. and Sun. and got my spot in the entrance to turn 9 in the infield complex. Such a good deal for watching so much racing when you include the Porsche supercup, indy pro, and formula bmw in addition to the f1 race. Plus it was sweet watching the safety car and c55 amg emergency wagon doing hot laps around the track before the race.

As much as I'm not a Tony George fan, Indy is by far the most practical venue for F1 in the US.

IMO none of the cities that might be capable of pulling off the logistics of a street race would attract a large enough crowd. Long Beach being the one possible exception but that circuit is now a joke. As for natural terrain road courses, all of the U.S. tracks are either too far from a major market, would need many millions of $'s in upgrades, or both.

^^case in point: Watkins Glen. Stunning track w/ 1980's accomodations in the largest town nearby-Corning. Long Beach was a great venue for CART races but overall, a boring track like you say. Road America would be the equivalent (of sorts) to Spa-Francorchamps but again, is out in the middle of nowhere w/ out accomodations. Indy is the place, the venue itself lends automatic credence to the race, has outstanding viewing options, is centrally located, and in a town that lives auto racing.

This is good news for me I think. It keeps the possibility of attending next years USGP a reality.

Good stuff... looked like a good showing this year especially after last year... Thought it was funny how everyone bitched that only 6 cars ran last year, and this year only about 10 cars finished... lol.... it was all about the wrecks....

I am hoping to make it there next year

My Meadowlands idea was purely for selfish reasons. (CART ran at the Meadowlands years ago.) It would be sweet if they could close down Broadway for an F1 race, but that will never happen in a million years.

Indeed, an F1 racer can get some serious speed from 59th to 42nd street. I can think of about a hundred different race course configurations within Manhattan alone. (Then again, I am a former Hertz vehicle transporter in the NYC area; we have experience running through the city @ triple digit speeds. )

Just imagine the bumps though. You'd have to resurface the entire course to get to FIA standards.

Im Glad!!! I didnt want to go to Vegas or any where else. Indy is close and makes for a great place to watch the race. (and is close to make a cheap vacation for me)

I too think Road America wold be a Great track for them to race at (as i love racing at it). But like you said Hotel accomdations would be the hard thing to deal with along with it being 45 min from any semi large city
