Button . . . .
Button . . . .
signs 3 year deal with McLaren. I wonder if he went to the wrong team?
EDIT: apparently he has not formally signed but is expected to do so shortly.

It's official, Button to McLaren. In the long term it may work out McLaren has a decent long term strategy in their planning and execution.

Wow, didn't think this would really happen. The bad thing for Button is that Hamilton is entrenched at McLaren. However, the good thing is that unlike Alonso, Button doesn't seem to have the attitude of Alonso, and he's a Brit. Button needs to get the team behind him rather than Hamilton.
I guess it would be easy to say Jense joined McLaren for the $$$ but when you think about it, ever since Hungary, McLaren had been improving drastically while Brawn was not. Brawn spent all its money just developing this year's car while McLaren are well underway with next year's. In the end, maybe JB thought McLaren could actually deliver him a better car than MBZ and chose his team accordingly.
Totally agree F-C. I always love watching drivers in the same team compete against each other. Then you get a true indication of just who has the upper hand given equivalent machinery.
Opinion from Mercedes GP
.
Brawn/Mercedes bosses Ross Brawn and Nick Fry have admitted regret after 2009 world champion Jenson Button jumped ship to rivals McLaren.
"I was very disappointed at the way things finished up with Jenson," admitted team principal Brawn to the UK newspaper Daily Express.
The parties have been locked in post-season negotiations about Button's salary for 2010, sparking waves of rumors and leaks about the purported figures involved.
Chief executive Fry said: "We offered loyalty which we hoped, perhaps naively, he would return."
"There is bravery and there is stupidity and we will only find out which it is next year," he said in an interview with the Mirror.
"We believe we made Jenson a good offer -- one that was significantly more than he is being paid at McLaren. We are all mystified by this decision.
"We think he has been badly advised and had his head turned by McLaren's glitzy headquarters," added Fry.
It has been rumored that the situation came to a head with the announcement of Mercedes' takeover, amid speculation Button felt the team should up its offer, and rumors that the German carmaker was pushing the Briton out.
"We made him an honest offer, but without him we can start with a clean slate. We wish him all the best," Norbert Haug is quoted in the German media as saying

Agree..they definitely seemed headed in the opoosite direction last season. But now with a cash infusion from MB...?
