Considering leaving Progressive for Geico
I have had Progressive for 6+ years, and while they have had good service (for the most part), they seem to be content on raising my rates every years even when I don't have any claims, tickets, or at fault accidents. I keep getting BS stories of how all insurance carriers have to raise rates in Georgia.
Currently I am insuring 2 cars, a 2006 Corolla (liability only), and a 2012 G37S. My most recent renewal with them was $713/6 months ($613 because I pay in full); this is an $30 increase for no reason.
That is not really that much when you spread it out over 6 months, but I just happened to get a quote from Geico for the same coverage and I was quoted $462.50/6 months. A HUGE difference. $150 savings every 6 months, ($250 if you don't factor in the discount I get for paying in full).
I then compared home owners policies between progressive and geico and even though I'm paying $76 less with progressive when I would be with Geico, the tremendous savings in the auto policy still would save me more money by switching both polices to Geico and getting rid of progressive.
would seem like a no brainer to switch, but does anyone have any experience with Geico, money savings aside, is there any reason why I should NOT switch to Geico?
Cliffs:
Progressive customer for 6+ years. Keeps raising my auto insurance for no reason. Currently paid $613 for most recent auto renewal, and paying $524/year for Homeowners: $1750/year for both policies for 12 months.
Geico: quoted me $462.50 for same coverage on auto, quoted $600 for homeowners: $1525/year for both policies for 12 months. ($225 in savings)

I used to have Geico for about a year before I switched to USAA. I liked them, but USAA had better rates at the time (2003).
I would call Progressive and tell them that you're considering switching, and that Geico quoted you the above numbers, and see if Progressive would match (mention that you'd love to stay with Progressive but have to save money in today's tough economic environment). See what they say.

Amazing how they all seem to creep their rate up every year even as the value of your car goes down. Just wait until you replace one of those cars with something new.

Thanks y'all
I'll give them a call today and tell them about the quote I received and if they are unwilling to budge, I'll switch.
They did contact me last year after I told them in a customer service survey that I did not like how they keep raising my rates for no reason.
They suggested I use that snapshot thing that you plug into your car and they monitor your driving and supposedly I could save up to 30%. I declined because while I don't drive aggressively, I just don't like the idea of them "watching" me when I drive. Kind of creepy if you ask me.

Switched to State Farm and will never look back.
Go and talk to an actual agent. They will set you up proper and it will likely be cheaper then if you went online and did it yourself.

Really??!!! I was under than impression that going through an agent would be even higher. Online quotes with State Farm have always been more than twice what I even pay with Progressive. Something like $1300 for 6 months. So I figured talking to an agent would be even higher than that.
Sounds like a plan though; I check to see if there some agents in my area to give me some quotes. I have some time before my homeowners policy renews and my auto isn't up until June.
One final question are the insurance agents pushy? Do they try to force you to purchase a policy even when you need more time to think about it?
I don't want any B.S. or high pressure sales tactics, I just want to get a quote and make the decision for myself without someone breathing down my neck.

^I've only dealt with one, the our State Farm guy. We were referred to him by like 5 of our friends and his clients. So I don't know. He was fantastic.

I had Geico for 5 years. Price very reasonable $<800/6 months for 911 and Element. The 911 was in Geico's most-expensive to insure car category, Geico assigns letters to the different risk categories A-R or something. I was accident free for that duration and did not have to deal with them. When I swapped the 911 for the F-car, Geico initially refused to insure the F-car saying they didn't cover cars in that price range.
I switched to State Farm since they would cover the F-car but the rates were more than double. I really liked my agent Tina, her office was close to my crib and she was very personable and punctual. She answered all my questions about different coverage values, deduction, etc. At this time, I added a BMW F10 and gave my Element to my mom, so was paying insurance on 3 cars at around $1800/6 months.
I asked around and found out from the F-car dealership that a lot of guys were using a local insurance company. Ironically, my homeowner's insurance was through them, I didn't know they did auto as well. I switched all 3 cars over to them and now I pay $910/6 months with $250K/500K/100K/50K through them. I also have a $3 mil umbrella policy with them. I don't think I can do better than this at the moment.

I'm an insurance agent that has been in insurance for over 20 years working for several companies along the way. I can tell you that there are a lot misconceptions about home and auto insurance or most any insurance for that matter.
You don't pay more to have an Agent in fact an Agent can find you discounts that you don't know about or even think to apply while doing online quotes.
Another misconception is that while comparing the same coverages from different companies many people believe that they are getting the same thing and while sometimes that might be true many companies even some (popular) have restrictions on their policies that you won't know about by comparing price alone most customers only find out when they either read the policy jacket (if you can understand the legalese) or when their in a claim situation finding out something isn't covered or has limitations.
