401(k) Thread

Who's got one?
What percentage of your salary do you contribute?
How often do you increase/decrease your contribution?
How much does your employer match?
What type of funds are you invested in?
What's your vesting schedule?
How much are you earning? Losing?
Discuss........

Our plan is through Bisys and is comprised of American Funds A-Funds.
Right now I my contribution is only 6% but that will be increased once (if) I get a raise next month.
The boss matches 50 cents for every dollar up to 4%.
Right now I'm in 100% Growth funds. I'm 22 and still young enough IMO to "gamble" a little with the allocation of the funds.
Our vesting starts 2 years after the day you start the plan, NOT the day you started employment. From what I've been told it normally is based on the employment date not the plan date. Oh well. After 2 years I get 20% and then 20% more for each additional year.
The past year wasn't too great and I was in some funds that were worthless. However, since I've changed things around a little I'm starting to earn alot more on my investment. I can make changes to my contributions daily if I wish online and even sell off shares to purchase new shares in a different fund without a penalty. This is the advantage of having all "A" funds (or so I've been told).

I have one -- several in fact. I'm in the process of rolling them over into an IRA.
Presently, my employer contributes nothing, but we do have a pension, so that makes up for it.
I presently don't contribute anything (our union is negotiating a new contract, so I stopped contributions until that is signed, just in case we go on strike).
I typically invest in S&P 500 fund and tech fund.
Since my employer contributes nothing, I'm always 100% vested.

Remember 401(k) is a long-term investment when you're in your 20s, 30s and possibly early 40s. Over the long haul, the stock market always makes money. Many people have recently "lost" money, but you have to remember that when the price drops, you're buying more shares (assuming you keep your contribution the same), so when it goes back up, you'll earn a lot of that money back. It's called "dollar-cost averaging."

Contribution 16% match 8% dollar for dollar
I've always done the maximum contribution. Last year we were able to go from 13% to 16%.
I've made contributions for ~5 years.
I invest in a mostly stocks, 1 index fund, and a bond.
I'm fully vested as of May 2005.
I'm at +0.6% rate of return year to date.

This is 401K stuff only.

we have fidelity, i invest 8% and company matches 75% up to 8% (thus I invest the max up to what they match cause its free money.
I'm fully vested after 3 years, and I am 92% in equities and of that I contribute 45% to two different small growth funds(25% to Barrons small cap growth and 20% to a small cap value fund), 25% to mid-cap fund and 25% to large-cap (both growth) and the rest goes to some stupid 2035 fund which hopefully is my estimated retirement age.

I'm not complaining, so far this year I have a 7.2% return.
My company matches with company stock and because I don't want to be over allocated into one stock every month I move it out to keep my 401 balanced.

My company has a 401(k) but they don't currently contribute, so I said F that.

My last employer offered one but if you left before 3 years they pulled out everything they put in, so I said F that too. I stayed there 4 years but sure didn't plan too.

15%, company matches 6%

85% stocks and mutual funds, the rest in conservative bonds, etc. Never change the contribution.

Up about 3% this year.

I put in 17%
company matches .50 per $1 up to the first 2k....so they give $1k max
100% vested from day 1 of employment
Currently have my money spread out in a few investments:
PCVAX, RAGTX, RWICX, LACAX, MAEFX, MALOX, MDGCX
So far this year I'm up a wopping .97%.
My best performers are PCVAX (2.77%) and LACAX (2.57%) (Both are actually up more then that, but that is the what I have made on my contributions)

We use ING
I contribute 12% (up from 10% previously)
Employer match - nada
I'm 66% agressive / 33% moderate

My total is on an upward trend, but I bet if I looked up all the money I've invested and compared it to my current return I would be in the negative.

401K ain't what it used to be. But for working people, you better have one.
