Parts-puller/advice

Looking for assistance In the kc, ks/kc, mo area. I've located an engine and transmission nearby. What should I look for to determine if they are worthwhile parts to grab? I'd kind of like to get them regardless, if anything to have an extra to poke and prod at off-vehicle. In regards to part pulling, I will do my best to be there and lend a helping hand in whatever way, and will pay. Price negotiable. Sorry if this seems a little disjointed or if posted in wrong area, I am super caught up in trying to make something work.

IMO: It's difficult to respond to the first part of your question, without having more information. Is it your intention, to use these parts as a learning tool, or do you plan, to someday actually use them? Second part: Do you have a way to transport these parts, or do you expect the parts puller, to deliver them to you? Is it a conventional salvage yard, a pick-n-pull yard, a private party, that your buying from. If it's a a pick-n-pull yard, usually, there are people that frequent them, strictly to assist others, in pulling parts. If you can't find someone to help, or do the job for you, you may want to consult your local Craigslist, and search for a mobile mechanic. If your intent is to eventually use these parts, I would recommend you search Youtube, for direction on how to evaluate salvage yard parts.
