Has anyone heard about Self Service Auto Repair in Glen Burnie, MD? (http://selfserviceautorepair.com/index.html)

What do you all think? Has anyone tried them yet?

Yeah I think so. Basically you rent a bay at $12/hr and work on your car.

Anyone heard of them? Used them?

Tom and Ray of "Car Talk" on NPR own one of those in Mass. I love the concept and would kill to have a professional lift at my disposal.

I'm blessed to have two of those not far from me. I was going to go to http://www.ditymechanics.com/ in Sterling, VA but Glen Burnie is closer for me.

Saw the shop in Sterling featured on Fox 5 news-a few weeks ago. They had Holly Morris doing a tire rotation and brake inspection on a Honda Accord. Shop looked very clean, well lit, and well equipped (appears you can use their tools). At least for the news feature-they had someone give her pointers on what to do and what to look for.

This beats the hell out trying to do a brake job in the dead of winter in your driveway.

I tried Self Service Auto on 1/4/2011, and I liked it. It's about $22 an hour. They provide oil drain, work light, and a wheeled cart. I am getting all my maintenance there from now on. You have to bring your own tools. You can borrow tools if you want, but they charge you. I think the one in VA lets you borrow tools for free.

Yea I did a PCD and Jpipe install @ the one in VA back in November. Great people working there. they give you an extensive set of tools with the lift you rent and they have any other tool you could imagine to rent. I rented a bolt cutter and o2 sensor tool. I even bought a bolt from them. Great shop. It was 18 per hour.
