What tire for '06 RSX-S?

Hi All,

Amazingly, my original Michelin MXM4s lasted 65,000 miles, but now it's time. Of course, Michelin is "phasing out" those tires, and the replacements are more expensive. I can still get MXM4s, but am considering other options. The lead candidate seems to be either Michelin Pilot Sport or Yokohama Avid Envigor, but an Acura guy today suggested looking at Goodyear F1s. There's another Yokohama tire, more expensive too, but Envigor seems like it's just about as good for significantly less dollars. But are the Michelin's worth the bang for the extra buck???

Any thoughts or experiences with any of the above?

Cheers,

JazzBuph

I'm in a market for new tires for my RSX as well. I decided to go with Continental ExtremeContact DW. I will probably get them in the next couple of weeks.

Continental ExtremeContact DW is a suppose to be a good tire but the treadwear is like 340 or 360. Continental ExtremeContact DWS is a 540 treadwear but isn't as soft as the DW. Look into the DWS if you want a long lasting tire.

I bought my TL with brand new ContiExtreme Contact WR rated tires and I love them. They seem better than the tires you mentioned. The tread pattern seems more aggressive.

DWS's are supposed to last longer, but I'm not concerned much about that, since the RSX is now driven less than 3,000 miles a year. I'm more interested in wet/dry performance. Snow in not an issue for me in SoCal.
I bought a set today (DW). First impression is on the positive side. Much quieter than BFGoodrich g-Force that was on before. It's too early to comment on any other attributes, since I'm on "day one" with these tires, but so far it's looking very good .

Just don't get Michelin's again, and you really can't go wrong. I had Dunlops on my two RSX/S and 3 Integras.

We need to get new tires for Ms1995hoo's 2003 RSX Type-S. The car has only 34,000 miles on it and is on the original Michelins, but because rubber deteriorates over time the tires have to be replaced or the car will not pass state inspection. Money is tight right now and so we're (really I guess I'm) considering Kumho Ecsta ASXs. I have a set of those on my RX-7 and I've been pretty satisfied with them; snow traction isn't an issue because she takes the subway to work and I drive her to the station each morning.

I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/Ss on my TL and have been very satisfied, but they're too expensive for us right now and they don't really seem like the right tire for an RSX anyway (not to mention overkill for a car that doesn't get heavy miles put on it).

Potenza RE960's if you have the $
Yokohama Avid Envigor if you're not interested in performance over ride/wear

Following up on my post above, we went with Falken Ziex 912s. They were on sale at an excellent price and the reviews were decent other than for handling in snow (as noted above, not really an issue). So far they've been pretty good in terms of noise/grip/handling, although we haven't driven the car in the rain since the new tires were installed on March 14.
