Just want to drop by to complain and give people head up. My 2016 ilx paint is starting peel already, I live in California and I do park it outside but just genuinely surprised to see this with an Acura. There is about 8 inch of paint that's peeling or bubble by the rear window.
That's frightening. It looks like a horrible metal prep at the factory. Whether in warrantee or not, take it into dealer and ask, What's up with this?
The only positive of social media is the power it holds.
Just checked my warranty, body rust is covered up to 5 years unlimited miles. Im bringing my car in on the 17th, let's see what can be done.
Also, hopefully they can finally fix my rattle from 1800 to 2000rpm. Sounds like a bolt is loose in the front. Overall I feel this model isn't well built.
That's too bad to hear. I know next to nothing about the ILX but that paint issue is inexcusable. I'm not sure what can be done short of the dealer willing to do a relatively major paint repair which I'd think may require removal of the window then sanding down to the bare metal and reapplying primer and paint, plus blending everything in with the existing paint. That's no small job.
I have same paint flaking off on both a-pillars where the groove meets the windshield. Mine is a 2016 Catalina blue. Add to list of issues. Regretting not getting a civic.
Earlier this year I had my driver side A pillar fixed for this same issue. It was covered under warranty. (We checked both front sides but I can’t remember if we checked the back or not.)
After see see this post I figured I should check again, and sure enough it’s peeling by the rear and also the passenger side A pillar now too.
2016 Catalina Blue Pearl. Passenger side A pillar. Top rear window.
The dealer said they're working on the approval from Acura to do the repair which will takes 3 weeks. Once approved the fix will also take 3 weeks. I'm told that the white and the blue have these problems and have an extended warranty...
@Charname I think you need to visit the dealer again..good luck
Anyone know where to find exact touch up paint, like the kind I can use a fine paint brush to apply in tiny dabs?---so I guess not a spray kind. I have to look up my paint code but it is basically black, 2013 ILX Premium

I have the same thing happening but on the front, they didn't prep before paint properly, to fix this now is to remove the glass that could introduce more issues in the future, better to just leave it, the primer is still holding so the moisture won't get through to the metal making it rust, so don't worry about that, just looks crappy, but thats Honda QC for yeah. another big fail. Touch up paint won't last long before it just peals off the same
Also it won't peal passed the turn it will stay in the groove, it's just bad prep as it harder for them to do in the tight area, but as i have said many times QC should have seen this before paint
Take it to the dealer. They took pics and sent them to corporate and fixed mine for free. They took it to a body shop. It’s turning into a a common problem with the blue and white paint colors.
I too have a 16 CPB with both issues discussed here. It was really bad on the a-pillars so I took it in originally in December. I gave them a couple weeks to get back to me and after hearing nothing I called to find it no one knew anything about it.
Took it in a second time, they got pictures ect. Another week or two go by.
Finally after the third trip there and having to get a little snippy with the service writer I guess they figured I wasn't going away. I'm also very thankful I found this thread before it went in bc without I wouldn't have looked at the rear window to see it peeling there too.
Also I wanted to mention that my passenger side roof/drip moulding was warped and did not sit flush which was very strange. They are replacing that as well as the other side so they will match. Check yours before taking it in!
Basically I want to say that if this is happening to yours don't let it go stay on them bc this issue is beyond unacceptable. Not to mention that once I get it back I still have the horrible transmission bump on the downshift to 1 that has been done twice and it's still as bad. I love this car but damn it stresses me out.

After my re-flash, in Drive it disengages the converter lock up clutch then before the low gear downshift it coasts. I'm guessing it doesn't re engage the low shaft clutch until full stop. Kind of annoying for quick stop-go's, almost feels like a hill hold kicking in. The only time mine does that is in Sport, like it's supposed to.
It sucks, but this seems to be very, very common. I bought one Catalina Blue Pearl 2016 ILX from that online car selling company that delivers them. After waiting almost two weeks for delivery and taking the day off to meet the delivery driver, I got a call from the driver telling me the paint is peeling all around the window and "do I still want it". I told him I couldn't make that determination of his vague, but bad sounding description over the phone, so he sent me several photos and they looked not quite as bad, but similar to your photo. I told them that unless they would repair it and give me a lifetime warranty on the repair, that I did not want that car (to which they declined and took the car back). I then bought another 2016 ILX (also blue) from another dealership and made sure there was not peeling (which there was not at the time). However, in the two years since I've owned it there have been 4 different spots that have peeled on this car (three near the front windshield and one near the rear window). Mine have thankfully been rather small and I prepped the area with alcohol and touched up using matching paint bought online. Thankfully they are not the most noticeable areas, so quality isn't highly important, and I'm pretty picky about this type of stuff. The first repairs have lasted over a year now and no signs of additional chipping. Hopefully this isn't a never ending problem with new areas chipping up from time to time, but I think I've been able to repair them myself pretty well.
Hard to see, but this was painted in this seam and has stopped the chipping for some time.
Just noticed there is more chipping than I've seen above my back window after seeing this post! Looks like I have some touch-ups to complete.
According to Acura dealer, this is known issue for Blue color. They are doing Mfg warranty repair.
Acura is doing a warranty extension for this issue and apparently only happens for the blue paint. See the attachment. You can all get this issue fixed for free.
