2016 ILX trunk release stuck (broken?)

I somehow managed to mess up my trunk release inside the interior of my Acura. It doesn’t open the trunk anymore.

Prior to that, I had been having a bit of trouble making my trunk closed manually from the outside, and I had been forcing it shut. It seemed to be obstructed by a shopping bag handle and maybe I didn’t move it out of the way completely.

After the third time of forcing it closed, I couldn’t open it anymore. Pulling the trunk release lever on the side of the driver seat does nothing.

The owners manual says I that there is a handle you can release on the trunk lid above the license plate area, but I didn’t find one there.

Been searching online for a couple of days now and I’ve been unable to find an answer. Also tried calling my mechanic without bringing the car in for him to look at, and he was thinking that some panel would need to be removed to get at it.

Would really appreciate any suggestions anyone might have!

please disregard

The button on the trunk lid was just where the manual described. I was feeling for something there before, but it was such a flat button I couldn’t tell it was something to press,!

Just had to make sure I had unlocked the vehicle first (which I’m sure I did before as well)

Sorry to bother everyone!
