does it work?

ANC - active noise cancellation....uses same phase or reverse phase to cancel out frequencies

it just cancels out certain frequencies like vibrations.

why not test drive one to see if the cabin is as quiet as you need it to be????

quiet is so subjective so you'll need to determine if it will be quiet enough for yourself.

I certainly would think it's quiet compared to my stripped down interior TL.
I took out all the insulation in the trunk, just bare metal.

to me; the ILX would be as quiet as a studio recording room. but that's based on what I'm used to....
The Original Poster would have to sit in and drive the ILX to determine if the cabin meets his needs.

I own the ILX. IT SEEMS LOUD COMPARED to other luxury cars. I have noise cancelling heqdph9ne and they are amazing at cutting out sound. I guess I was look for that type of quiet.

very curious why you chose the ILX over the competition if you knew going in that it is louder than the competition.

depending on the kind of person you are; you have a few options...
if you are a fix it type of person, you can lay down or have a shop lay down sound deadening material all over the car, including; the floor of the cabin, the door panels, and the trunk.
This fix will def. take care of ALL the noises and will make the car as quiet as the competition.

the other option is to trade in the car for the competition.

That's because the ILX is not a luxury car and is objectively quite noisy and loud. It's pretty tinny, crashy, harsh, and not much more refined than the 9th generation Civic it's based on. It should have been clearly evident during the initial test drive, except for people who have never driven/ridden in a luxury car before. There's a reason why Consumer Reports found that ILX owners had the highest rate of buyers remorse out of any car: https://www.consumerreports.org/car-...regret-buying/

Also, noise cancelling headphones cup your ears. there's a shorter distance that the same phase and or reverse phases have to travel.

an enclosed metal structure will have many many frequencies and vibrations bouncing all around you. kinda hard to cancel out frequencies in a car.

Understand it is a Sport, Luxury. Sport comes first and sports cars are loud and harsh. If you want full luxury, it's going to cost you. If you add several hundred pounds of sound deadening and gushy suspension parts you can shift it to more luxury, or buy a luxury car and complain about MPG and repair costs.

A simple test drive would make it obvious that the ILX is not a "quiet" car, at least in my book.

I find the cabin on my 2019 ILX to be a bit on the noisy side. The the Full Race exhaust I put on covers a lot cabin noise with a much more pleasant tone without being to loud.
