I did remove the factory rubber from the edges of the spoiler and used the 3 M tape in its place. Near the middle of the spoiler I actually used 2 layers of tape to move the area of adhesion closer to the trunk metal. I checked this by using a cardboard straight edge to check for high or low points front to back. I did notice that the factory rubber trim I removedon the edges of the spoiler was not continuous> breaking near the sculpted ridges on each side of the trunk lid. I also left breaks on my tape job on the front and back of the spoiler so water could escape if trapped. In the end that is why I didn't want the holes as there would be a chance for rusting in those areas.

If I did this over, I would use the better tape you bought and maybe drilled just 3 holes(one on the center, one on each side for the threaded bolts ,then seal the holes with silicone caulk) What would concern me now is that if you try to remove the spoiler with heat, you may distort the ABS spoiler, especially if the tape is as good as they say. The spoiler is probably ok as it is raised enough that any water between the it and the trunk lid can blow away. Send pictures when you can.

This addition really finishes the car off without being ostentatious

Yeah, I think I'm going to remove mine (dental floss or fishing line) and try again. Like an idiot I taped over the foam, which is what's causing the gaps (I think).

Keep in mind that these are not "endearing" photos, it really doesn't look that bad, unless you try to look for the gaps. I took these with the purpose of illustrating what I think I did wrong.

Oh yeah, and the camera flash makes the tape reflect, which makes it really evident on the photos. Looks more like a small gap in person.

Thanks for posting the photos. I understand where you are coming from now. Further justification for redoing this is that the factory rubber is not stuck on spoiler all that well which may aid you in removal. All the best. RT

Removal was simple with the floss last night. Slip floss under the spoiler corner, work it side to side. Once you get about 10 inches on each side, you can gently lift from each side and pop it off. On mine, 75% of the tape stayed on the car and around 25% stayed on the spoiler. It peeled off pretty easy from each. Used Goo Gone to remove any adhesive, soap and water to wash that off, dried surfaces.

Tonight I reaffixed it, removing the factory foam. I made long runs of tape, and covered the bolts. I followed this guide:

It worked flawlessly, I'll snap a few shots tomorrow morning in the parking garage. Eventually I will get this thing outside to take some good shots of the whole car, need to coordinate a wash and a sunny day.

I did notice a slight "warp" in the very center of the underside of the spoiler, above the Acura logo. It's not visible, I felt it while applying pressure to the spoiler so that it would stick. It actually may not be what you would call a warp at all. Robtroxel, when you get a chance, please feel yours under there and see if you feel the same.

Thanks for the idea and the help robtroxel!

Great job. I figured you'd move quickly and it does appear the factory foam tape may have helped release your spoiler for a second chance. I'll check the middle underside on mine today. Don't remember anything there. PS Could not get the hotlink to work.
