Help with 2015 ILX mods
Help with 2015 ILX mods
I just purchased a 2015 ILX and I need help with my headlights and fog lights. I'm new to this and i want to change my headlights from regular to a blue looking bulb. And I want yellow fog lights. If you can please help me out on where I can get them that would be very helpful. Thank you! Also I would prefer quality bulbs. Price isn't really a problem because I used to own a BMW and i'm pretty sure parts are less expensive than a BMW.
evargas19,
Congrats on the purchase!
Did you purchase a base model or a Premium/Tech Pkg? If you bought a base, the headlights are halogen and to get that "blue" look, you need to install a HID kit. I'm assuming you didn't since you have fog lights. If you bought a premium/tech pkg, it already has xenon HID headlights. The xenons give a white look with a hint of blue because of the projector. To get the blue look, you need to change the bulb, any D2S bulb at your wanted temperature should work.
For the fogs, you can choose yellow lamin-x to make it yellow or just get a HID kit and get 3k temperature.
Not sure where to get "quality" ones but I hope this clarified your question a bit.

Ive used www.ledmodified.com in the past for HID's and still have a set I bought... About to install them in their second vehicle as the fog lights for my '14 2.4L this weekend... I will also be installing LED replacements (Yellow) for the day time running lights. Ill post pics next week.

but you cant have an HID bulb without the ballast.
so, if the OP wants HID's, he'll need a kit that includes; Bulbs, ballast, and relay harness.

lets learn!
Science is a wonderful thing!!!!
light color is measured in a scale called Kelvin.
The higher you go up on the Kelvin scale, the more blue/purple you will see.
HOWEVER!!!!!!!!
the higher you go on the Kelvin Scale, the less visibility you have!
OEM manufactures use 4300k - 5000k for a reason!
because it throws the most usable light!!!
after about 6000 Kelvin, the bulb is blue but your visibility is LOST!
I would recommend you not go above 5000 Kelvin.
if you go above, YOU WILL HAVE A HARD TIME SEEING WHILE IT's RAINING.
that's science.

You will want bulbs labels as 5000k. 6000k will start to look REALLY blue almost purple at the edges in my opinion. I don't suggest going higher than 5000k. You can find them in the drop down menu under compatible h11 bulbs on the item justnspace posted for you.
I would 100% agree with Justin, that is the kit I would buy if I did not have an OEM HIDs.
As for fogs. You can contact your local dealership to get fogs installed or pick them up from any acuraparts website and have a local shop do the install. Your acura dealer would probably have the most straight forward solution and is your best bet if you dont mind paying a little more becausestealership.
Once you get the fogs you can either use yellow bulbs (cheap), amber LEDs with resistors (mid range), or more HID kit, this one will be tougher to install since there is no OEM option, then you can pick up the 3000k bulbs for a yellow tint.
I personally found the LED option to be great. I have amber LEDs with resistors right now for my fogs and LOVE them. They cost about 50$ on ebay for the LEDs and the resistors I bought in two different purchases.

the link I gave to the H11 HID kit even says this under technical details
*lumens is brightness.
as you can see 4000 K range has the highest Lumens.
- Kelvin and Lumens (35W)
3K Range:Golden Yellow (~2800 lm) - 4K Range:Warm White (~3100 lm)
- 5K Range:Pure White (3000 lm)
- 6K Range:Cool White (2900 lm)
- XB55 50W Ballasts ( +20% intensity) (-20% lifespan)

What kit would you guys recommend for most brightness and yellow effect for the fogs? And that means it would have to be HID then? I know LED has come along nowadays.... I already have yellow Lamin-x covers, but want more yellow/yellow-ist and brighter/brightest possible setup. Willing to entertain a couple different ideas. Sell me on it.
Also isnt heat a possible issue with HID? and one setup or the other uses less energy right?

I will be installing Yellow LED's tomorrow for the Day-Time running lights, Ill post pics when done to give you an idea for what they look like.
Yellow Daytime running lights seems like it would be LOSING lumens, meaning losing visibility, meaning losing the purpose...
Am I wrong here?
If anything - shouldn't you be going in the other direction? Warm white? Post before and after for comparison.
