The Acura dealer said that I should do the first oil change for my new ILX at 1K miles. However, the manual explicitly states that the "starter oil" is a special blend for breaking in the car and should be left in as long as possible, i.e. until the oil life indicator says it's time to change the oil. Well, the car is at 1,000 miles, but the oil indicator is still at 80%.

What to do? Trust the dealer, or the manual?

owner's manual. read it, know it...and the dealer won't EVER try to pull and fast one on you.

I've heard some stories where after people had their first oil change with this car, they started to get better MPG, while driving with the same routine.
