Felt this bulletin deserved its own thread. Below is an Acura Tech-line summary. It appears that some cars have faulty passenger side engine mounts and in result, customers are experiencing knocking front-end noise.

 

My favorite part is the duct tape... then give it back to the client.

 

Yeah, not sure if I'm feeling this "temporary fix".

 

I just can't believe Acura actually suggested to use DUCT TAPE! No matter how un-fire proof it is, its still recommended!

My reading comprehension must be different than you three. You seem to have read this quite differently than I did. This is a test to see if the motor mount is the source of the noise. No where does it indicate it is a temporary fix and that the shims an tape should stay on the car.

 

Your are correct Sir. I should have indicated "test" not "temporary fix". Thanks for pointing that out.

 

I understand it was just a test, but I was just picking at it to have fun with.

 

Finally! Mine actually makes the noise, without going through bumps or small dips. It happens anytime randomly, mostly when my car is sitting at a red light idling.

 

May be something else when you hear it while just idling.

 

Can you be more specific? What type of noise are you hearing while just idling?

 

Curious to know; are there any new drivers out there that have begun to experience front end passenger side engine-mount noise?

 

It's too cold. Wait until the summer time when engine temps get hotter...then we'll hear this.

 

Not everyone lives in the northeast as you and i do. Even with it being colder out now, i still hear and feel it quite easily even tough it is more pronounced once the engine increases in temperature.

 

Just got back from the dealership. Went on a test ride with the service & parts director. My luck, I was not able to duplicate the noise, AGAIN.

Here is my take:

I am becoming more and more convinced that this s a suspension related issue. Whether it's the newly designed struts for 2013 ILX & RDX or some other component belonging to the suspension that the noise is coming from.

I went into he dealer without anything in the trunk. No spare, lid or tools. Driving ALONE it is very easy to duplicate the LOUD thump coming from the rear, while going over sharp edged uneven surfaces. Unfortunately, I am unable to duplicate that noise as easily with more weight in the car. Are you noticing the same?

With the spare, lid and tools in the car the thump is still there but not as loud or easily duplicated as it is without those three items in the trunk.

This has me believing this is a weight/suspension related issue, the new multi-stage struts/dampers that are in this car as being the culprit. I've mentioned this in the "suspension noise" thread. Some of us are experiencing this, some are not. Is it just a bad batch?

I have another thread I opened regarding the front passenger engine mount. Is it really the engine mount or is it ANOTHER bad strut in the front as well?

Left the Acura dealership hopeless. Director was willing to help but unfortunately couldn't duplicate the noise while he went along for a test drive. Again, added weight, wasn't able to duplicate the noise as easily as if I was alone.

In result, I can in fact rule out that the noise is NOT coming from the trunk/floor lid, as the title of this thread indicates.

Lastly, given that I am experiencing front passenger-end nocking along with the rear thumping while going over rough roads, has me believing this is a suspension issue and not something else as some others have suggested.

Please continue to document your experiences and findings. Not just on here but with the dealership as well so that we can get to the bottom of this rather sooner than later. Thank You.

Guess not, for me. I'll have to pay closer attention.

 

Nothing yet, but I dont have too many miles on the car. If it doesnt start soon I may never hear it once I get the exhaust on the car...LOL

 

I was hoping it would say, "return the vehicle to the client and tell him/her you couldn't duplicate the issue."

 

Are only some 2.4's experiencing this front passenger engine mount rattling, or are there 2.0's out there as well?

 

I thought I remember a 2.0 owner saying they heard it. But if its in the engine mounts us 2.0 owners have different mounts for our different engine.
