Do you have to use the paddle shifters when driving in "Sport Mode"?
I've been driving in D
I'm just wondering when driving in "sport mode", do you have to use the paddle shifters, or will the car shift automatically if not touched?

If you don't touch the paddles, it will shift for you but at higher shift points that in "D".

The ILX in sport mode will automatically shift the first two gears for you.
But from there it will just red line if you don't shift with the paddles.
In case you are wondering, steadily slowing down will automatically downshift for you so that if you go to gas it again you will be in roughly the correct gear.
I honestly don't use sport mode ever. I enjoy the relaxing drive I wanted when I bought the automatic and a quick downshift with the paddles while in D will still pull some extra torque you wouldn't have felt by simply pressing the acceleration. Still surprises me actually. Doesn't feel like only 150hp where as in my Integra it felt like significantly less.

I agree....Everytime I take the ILX out and put it in manual mode and use the paddle, that little car with its 150HP just makes me grin and think to myself..."150HP?!? REALLY?!?"

I'm new to the "dual clutch transmission", I normally just keep it in Auto mode
I've heard it's fun using the paddle shifters in sport mode, afraid to use it tho......so far I'm getting all the power I need using "D"
ILX goes up to 160, I took it up to 100 already......quick car, really like the performance

Just be careful out there.
And dont be shy, test out the sport mode! For your first time just keep an eye on the RPMs and just as a reference shift around 3000rpm or let it hang a little higher if you want to hear more of that engine.
Soon you'll hear when the engine wants to climb a gear.

thanks guys, I'm gonna give it a try eventually. Until then I'll just enjoy the great mpg
I feel like this new '16 model has a lot more to offer, I'm not getting the "full" driving experience

The Sequential SportShift 5-speed transmission* can be operated in two different fully automatic modes with the console-mounted straight-gate shifter. The D (or "Drive") mode is ideal for most driving situations, and combines fuel efficiency with smooth operation and responsive power when needed. The S (or "Sport") mode is for more performance-oriented driving, and features more aggressive shift mapping to keep engine rpm higher for greater acceleration and response.
*the same is true for the 8-DCT

Huh. Well I stand corrected good sir.

^^ I like to think of it as 4 modes:
D = regular drive
D+Paddle = momentary manual mode, returns to drive on it's own
S = drive with some sport added
S+Paddle = full manual mode (except for 1-2 shift)

10th Gear
0 Miles on the ILX straight out of the dealer in Sport Mode and it is a TON of fun from this 150hp car lol 1st - 4th is absolutely a rush and unexpected of the pull putting the pedal to the floor (coming from a 09 Civic Si boltons/tune and the 07 3.2 TL).

Burning Brakes
S = Snow mode.
Since it keeps the engine in lower gears, you get the benefit of engine braking and don't unsettle the chassis as much by shifting.
