yes, there is a "break in" oil. check your owner's manual for maintenance schedule. you will be fine following the MID. it will alert you to your oil change when it reaches 15% oil life. mileage dependent OCI aren't really necessary with the MID system in place. OCI will vary depending on how YOU drive your car and environmental conditions. you may get as little as 4k miles or as many as 8500 miles. the MID tends to be conservative in terms of oil life. no sense in changing the oil unnecessarily (excessively) and spending the time and money to do so. the MID is your friend.

Break in oil contains zinc.. it's best for the engine to run the oil the longest you can without it breaking down.
I would follow the MID until it says to change, then future oil changes after 3,000 or 5,000 miles whatever you are comfortable with.

I had my first change at 5,000 miles, and every 5,000 miles since then. The MID would've allowed me to go much longer each time. Just a matter of preference. The oil's good for 8k I bet. I just have a routine that works for me.
The basic principle of break in oil is because the zinc that is added is more abbrasive, the oil removes any spurs left over from the milling/break in processes. The longer you run the oil (Without the oil breaking down) the less likely you are to end up with scratches in the piston walls and compression issues down the road.
That is a very minimalistic response to it
.
Run it until the light comes on and then change it every 3-5k miles from there.
