17" Diamond Cut Alloy Rims for ILX

Hello,

I'm currently leasing a 2013 ILX and lately I've been thinking about putting some rims on it for the summer specifically Acura's 17" Diamond Cut Alloy Rims.

Has anybody else on the board done this ? Does it change the handling of the car ?

Does anybody have any recommendations in regards of rims that I could put on my ILX ?

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to cars and this is my first Acura so bear with me.

Thanks.

I wouldn't really recommend those to be honest. They do look nice BUT - they are the same wheel size as the stock. 17x7 +40 or 45 offset. Thing is (MY OPINION), if you are gonna get different wheels, don't you want GAIN something? If you go bigger, diameter wise, in a good looking wheel, its more noticeable. I'd say at least 18 and especially 19. Now if you go wider like lets say a safe bet of 8.5 (going off of Tirerack/other websites upsize wheel recommendations) then you gain traction/performance (with the right tire) because you have more rubber and grip to the ground. Because you have a wider track, handling is improved. Basically, the OEM diamond wheels are nice looking but expensive. For that same price, you could shop around and get some REAL and great BBS wheels or OZ rally wheels from a Tirerack/other big chain place. The wheels will be light, quality, performance oriented, and if you don't know much about wheels you "probably" will get bs'ed less at a shop like this then a "RIM SHOP". They will push inferior, albeit cheaply priced, wheels on you. On the other hand, if you just want looks, and want to maintain OEM in case you trade in or something, then OEM quality is better then cheap wheels in my opinion.

Oh also - the bbs or oz rally wheels won't be hard to sell if you don't keep your car after the lease. You could easily sell those on craigslist or whatever. The diamond cut wheels may be harder to sell after, I mean all kinds of people want BBS or OZ wheels, but I'm pretty sure only acura or honda drivers would want the diamond cut wheels.

^^ See, I respectfully disagree. I think the accessory wheels from Acura are really nice and add a lot of sexiness to the ILX without going too bling blingy. There are a few people on here that have them...

Yeah i think they look good too, but if i'm spending $1200, then I want some bling. Like VIP Modular wheels is selling some of there wheels for $1500 on their website. I would way rather get those, cuz thats my style. I guess it depends if you want low key clean looking wheels, or stand out from the crowd wheels.

^^ YUp...I guess its all subjective. I hope I didn't come across as being rude for disagreeing with you....more of a difference of opinion but I see your point as well. Keep in mind that I am in my 40's ... God I feel old now

nah no offense taken man. Actually I was even gonna say that too. I think an older guy would look kinda weird if his car is too modified with big wheels, stickers and stuff, it'd look like he's driving his son's car or something. LOL. A young guy needs those big wheels tho - I mean how else are you suppose to scoop up those random young sluts? You know those ones that are like "oh my gawd!! IS THAT YOUR CAR?!"

Yes, I'm in Canada and we have bad potholes because of the harsh winters and I sometimes drive my car on bumpy dirt roads so I don't want to go too big.

Would 18 inch rims be too big or should I stick with 17 inches ?

I'm not a racer, I only use my car for commuting, running errands, and the odd road trip.

I have the base model ILX with the 16 inch wheels and they look really small to me, so that's why I'm looking to get something bigger.

Yeah 18's would look significantly better, as well as not be too big. From the roads you are describing, on 19's, you would probably feel the harshness of the road a lot more. I thought you had the stock 17's. I got my premium 17 wheels chromed, and they look great for now until I figure out what wheels I want to go with. If you get bigger wheels, be warned, they weigh more, more weight means less mpg. Nothing huge, but still something to consider over the life of the vehicle. My mpg dropped a tiny bit after the wheels were chromed, more weight. But I still average 27.6 mpg (2.4 liter). Thats part of the reason why I was saying to go with something like BBS or OZ. Those wheels may even be lighter then stock wheels. The cheap brand wheels are HEAVY, and have lower standards of quality, so they might not last as long (too many potholes at high speed = bent rim). If this is all stuff you don't want to deal with or think about, in your case the diamond wheels may be a good choice.

couple more ideas. If you did get the diamond wheels, you could just chrome them. You could also get wheel spacers to have the wheel pushed out closer to the fender. Wider wheels are more pleasing to the eye (besides a little better handling) but if your wheel isn't that wide, you could get the spacers, and it will improve handling (wider track) and look better. I'm probably going to do that myself for now, and later on purchase a really nice set. I know I'll easily sell my chrome stock wheels.

In my opinion, don't go 17. I agree with what AOMECH said, they look GREAT but if you are going to spend the money to upgrade Id go 18 at least with 7.5 or more... this way the wheels look better to the majority being a good 18in, as well you will gain in handling performance if you go up in width... even just half an inch.

If I remember correctly, the TL had pretty much the same exact wheels but in 19 I think so not sure if you want to go that big. Id personally say go 18 myself.
