1 Month old and...

Short story is the driver of the Neon crossed two lanes of traffic and hit me. It was a total surprise. There is this a spot where cars can wait for traffic to slow and then boot it across. There are no lights or anything, it's up to the driver's discretion. She didn't see me until it was too late. No real injury other than being shaken up and some stiff neck/back muscles. Car is fully insured.

I spoke with a highly recommended repair facility today and they told me it will get fixed with all new OEM parts. No putty/bondo.

I also asked if "The car will ever be the same again" and the response was you won't be able to tell the difference. It will be perfect and they guarantee it. Even the paint matching...

Good to hear you are ok!

On a brighter note; looks like the ILX holds its own in in an accident!

I just hope you don't have any frame damage.. Had a coworker get t-boned just like you last Saturday and they ended up totaling the car..

I'm an eternal optimist so we'll see. The shop is apparently one of the best in the city. I'll update this thread on the progress.

Ouch, those are some broken ILX's. Now that it's been a few days, I'm over it and am looking forward to getting it fixed and back in my hands.

Got the estimate today. It's $8700 but that doesn't include two new front wheels and tires because the insurance company didn't have pricing on those. The shop also said they usually find things that can't been seen until they take it apart.

I expect it to get around $12,000-$13000 once it's all said and done. Expected completion is end of Sept.

Car is at the shop. They have already received most, if not all of the new OEM parts and have begun the dismantling and repair of the suspension. I asked them to take pictures so I could see what it looked like before they fixed it. Hopefully I can post those here eventually. Once they have the mechanical done, it'll move to auto body. Not sure when that will be but likely in the next week or so.. In the mean time I have a 2013 Avenger as my courtesy car.

My shop adviser is great to deal with and responds quickly to any of my inquiries.

Went to see the car today. Suspension is completely fixed. Everything broken was replaced and it looks perfectly straight. I was able to get under the car and take some pictures. Looks brand new.

Glad you're ok! Super crazy how just a side impact can cost nearly half the value of the car. Goes to show how building a safer car leads it to crumple more easily and thus jacking up repair costs.

It would cost way more than that to repair your body.

Update 2

Progress has been a bit slow because a few key parts are on back order. One of those being a door hinge... The shop was told today that all remaining parts will arrive Wednesday and they'll get going ASAP. They may even have it ready Friday but I think next week is more likely.

Here is a couple pics from today.

Update:

Shop has been backed-up with work, so the progress has been slow. Good news is that it's all repaired and painted. The last steps are to assemble and detail. I've been dropping in on it about once a week, taking lots of pictures to document the process. I may post the pictures from each stage once it's all done.

Should be getting it Monday or Tuesday!

Paint can handle a little dirt

Looks like the repair is coming along well! Good to hear that the body shop is working with you, too. A month and a half without your car though, damn. Bet it'll feel good to finally be back in it.

Got the car back! I'll post details soon but I wonder if anyone could answer this for me. When the car gets wet, then dries does the drivers window continue to come back up wet? I'm talking the next day it's still going down dry and coming back wet.

Yep, this has become a known/common issue among ILX owners. I've communicated it to Acura HQ, as well.

Glad you're back in the car! Post pics soon.

Need to get the pics up.. in the mean time, one last question.

Where the door hinges attach to the A-pillar there is some calking type material around each hinge. Is that sealant or a bonding/strengthening material?

That sucks about the accident, glad all worked out. I had no idea this was in Manitoba until I saw MPI, then I checked the picture and realized I drove by there about an hour ago. I guess the Neon driver was in a rush to get to McDonalds.

I saw a ILX today like yours. Same problem. It's a shame but as long as your okay.

Finally getting around to the update..

It took awhile to get every little detail addressed but the shop did an excellent job and the car turned out amazing. All new parts, paint match was nothing short of perfect. Even the bumpers match now, which they weren't a complete match from factory. The shop was right that I wouldn't be able to tell a difference..

You'll notice in the picture that the drivers door is missing the chrome trim piece. It's on the car now but when I picked the car up, they were waiting for it to arrive. Acura shipped 5 or 6 of them and each time it arrived bent.
