Now im torn between these two television sets,
Sony KDLŽ-V40XBR1 which is a discontinued model but nonetheless a fuckin great tv

I hooked up an OTA antenna and the sony had less pixelation than the samsung, which blowed when i was watchin NFL....the Samsung is a 1080, for which i will be gettin a PS3 for eventually....but damn the picture in 720 looked so bad during the football game vs the Sony, which leads me to lean towards the Sony, i would be using it for movies alot, as well as a big computer monitor, HD tv via cable, and eventually bluray....

If i was getting both of them for the same price, which one would u go with and why?
I'm gonna compare SD picture tommorrow, but i dont usually watch alotta SD...

Step up to a XBR2 or XBR3, it's only money.

SD, are you in the stone ages? jp.

Dude I can't watch SD anymore it drives me nuts.

It's a tough call, both are under 2k now. I'm a sony person myself, but I'm leaning towards a sammy for my bedroom.

On a screen that "small" odds are you wouldn't get any benefit from 1080p. Once you're in the 50" and higher range, that's where you really see it...

can you explain to me the logic behind that statement?

i'm not certain i agree.

the only thing size has to do with is DPI, and granted, at 50" plus, you'll have a rather low DPI at 768p, but even at 40" having the much higher DPI of 1080p will make a difference.

it may not be as essential a difference, but there will be a difference.

i've a 46" display and I see a big difference between 720p and 1080p. there isn't a massive DPI disparity between 40" and 46".

anyway, even ignoring the resolution differences... i would no freaking doubt get the 4095d over the XBR1. it's a better TV, no question... AND... it's cheaper! get the Samsung, for sure.

While Sony is indeed overrated, no more so than Samsung.

So far as LCD's go, Samsungs & Sony's are virtually identical... sharing the same LCD panels in most of their sets. The only real difference is the design of the set and the processors, for which, there also aren't many differences.

In this case though, you're talking about a high end Samsung vs an older lower-end Sony. It's a no brainer.

It's just what I've read along the way while doing research. And I did mis-type there... I should not have said 50"... I should have said 47" and up as that is typically what I was told. I also should have said any benefits are minimized at that size... and the larger you go, the more you get out of the 1080p... b/c yes, you will see a benefit, but you really see it on the larger screens.

I wouldn't know from experience b/c when shopping for a 1080p set, we knew we wanted a large screen, so we didn't look at anything less then 56".... but the 47"+ 1080p thing was just a blanket statement that is widely publicized.

And yes, that Sammy is the way to go here...

Very nice.

Is it just the picture or is your TV a bit off center?
