Thought Vizio was good...

1 year 2 week old 60" died on me.

I have no idea what happened. It was fine Sunday night. Watched GOT...I go to put a Blu-ray in on Tuesday & a black screen. Anything connected to the HDMI ports gets a black screen. The USB port & all the apps do not work. The wireless does not work. There were no storms.
But the component jacks work & when connected get full well(1080i cable) HD. The pic & sound are fine.
Called vizio, they had me reset it, & nothing. Then said they can't warranty it. 2 weeks after & they wouldn't do anything.....

Trying self repair...Got a new system board for the TV. $30. The back cover is off & looks really simple to replace. System board on the left.

I'm surprised that the board only costs $30.

Wow, 2 weeks out and they won't honor it? I've had that same problem before with other electronics. Those companies were shady as fuck and they eventually went under.

Meanwhile I had an old CRT TV I got like 15 years ago that still works.. They definitely don't make them like they used to

My sister had a Vizio a few years back that went out slightly after a year, no go on the warranty. My Samsung went out at about 18 months, called up Samsung and they said they would still honor it and sent a tech to my house at no cost. The tech is probably pretty similar but low cost normally means no customer service. Cool that you were able to fix it on the low though.

Samsung did the same for me, 9 months out of warranty and the board went but they did it as goodwill.

Glad you got yours working OP!

You have to keep in mind that Vizio's whole business model when it started was to provide high end electronic features at a significant price reduction. Samsung can afford to fix a few TVs outside of warranty, but if you're Vizio, at what point do you draw the line on your warranty when you've already taken a margin hit? If their answer is, "at the agreed upon warranty deadline," then I don't see much problem.

Glad it was a cheap fix though. Gives me hope for if mine ever goes south. I'm past the 4 year mark with a 55".

TV's, for the most part are easy to fix. My wife had an LG that would take forever to turn on so I replaced a few capacitors ($5 or so) and it has been going strong ever since. Another Samsung kept saying a USB was overloaded so I put a new one in and perfect ever since.

Nice job on the self fix Fuzzy, I'd definitely be pissed. I have a couple pixels/LED's on my Vizio 70" that are starting to go. You'd think they'd have a better warranty for a $1500 tv

I had a 42" Vizio LCD crap out on me a few years back. All of the blacks in the picture were bright green. I had a warranty from Circuit City and they sent me a check without even seeing the TV. I went out and bought a 46" Sharp and stuck the Vizio in the back room and forgot about it. About a year later I figured I'd do some research to see if it could be fixed. Turns out it was a relatively common issue and the part was cheap to fix, so I bought it. When I tried to remove the old part I couldn't get it out. After about an hour of pulling and tugging and trying to figure out what was holding it in, I said fuck it and just put the back panel on. To my surprise I turned on the TV and it was working fine! It just took a little jiggling, haha. I still have it to this day and it works with no issues, kinda crazy.

I always buy extended warranties on my TV's. They don't build 'em like they used to! I used another about a year ago on my 55" Sony. Lightning struck and traveled through the HDMI cable and fried it. It would've cost me almost $400 to fix. I'm generally not big on warranties but for TV's it's a different story.

I got a 32 inch Vizio sitting at home that needs a few caps or just a new power board if i'm feeling lazy to solder. Power board is about 25 bucks on ebay and caps would probably be about 5 bucks.

It was 'broken' from the gf's brother so he gave it to me for free... so 25 bucks for a TV is something

One of the reasons I loved my AMEX card was that they doubled any manufacturer's warranty up to one full year. I used that once or twice on things that died shortly after the manufacturer's warranty expired.

Not sure if Visa/MC do that same though, and I am dumping the AMEX card...
