talk about something moronic

As you all know the biggest thing in High Definition is HDMI connectivity.....

So I am in Circuit City and I purchse a Sony DVD player with HDMI up conversion and I ask the sales person about a HDMI cable. He states that it will be an additional $100 for a 1 meter cable.....

I looked at him like he was nuts and

look what I found for $20

http://www.nanosys1.com/cbl-hdmimm3.html

Now I am on friendly terms with the guys there and they stated that they are 250% to 500% markup on their cables and that they believe that the B&M and most online retailers are at 1000% markup or higher for the same quality of cable.

Now you visit a online AV site and those guys swear by the $200 cables

Needless to say I take my $20 cable and hook it up to my new LCD tv and honestly cannot see any difference in the PQ?

Why is it that some people insist on uber expensive cables when the cheap ones seem to work just fine?

Wow thats a cheap cable!

I saw the monster cables @ best buy the other day, rediculous. Lucky the HD-DVR came with an HDMI cable and an HDMI to DVI cable that I can use for my LCD :}

I wonder the same thing.

You can go to best buy and they will sell you a 6' USB printer cable for 30-40 bucks, or you can go to Fry's and get the same cable for 6.99...

I just had the same situation. I needed a firewire/i.link cable. I went to Best Buy to check them out and the cheapest I could find was $25. I said forget it, went on eBay and bought one for <$5 shipped. It works perfectly too.

the best picture quality cables are the ones that the are sold in specialty audio/video shops by some small companies nobodies ever heard of. it's like audio equipment, it takes someone that's an aficionado to recognize and demand the difference.

but yea, the biggest cash cows for places like BB are the cheap ass monster sheeet that they push.

It's more understandable for analog cables as that requires more energy and signal preservation. For digital signalling cables, as long as they are shielded, that is all you need.

I bet you that it takes no more tahn 10 dollars to make the nicest HDMI cable.

And, IMHO, HDMI is not the biggest thing in HDTV, it's the resolution. I can't tell the difference between component and HDMI cables.

No way, really? I can see a huge difference between component and HDMI. Give me a digital cable to carry a digital signal over an analog cable carrying a digital signal any day. I have either HDMI or DVI on my Sammy DLP and plasma, and noticed a huge difference on both sets immediately. Same with my parents JVC HD-ILA. As soon as we swapped out the HDMI cable on his too... huge difference. Right away I noticed a difference in color and sharpness. A few more minor adjustments to the already tweak sets, and it looked 100x better with the HDMI.

For the price I pay for cables I'd never choose analog over digital.
