DLP Color Wheel

My 61" Samsung DLP is almost 3 years old. I don't remember if I bought the extended warranty from Circuit City or not.

Anyways, I have never replaced the bulb but it seems to be fading a bit. I went into the service menu and the bulb has about 8,500 hours on it. I decided it was definitely time for I new one. Also, I have noticed the TV getting louder and louder. It's almost like a high pitch whine. I did a bit of research and found out that the color wheel is most likely the culprit. So, when I bought the new bulb, I also ordered a new color wheel. Total cost of about $300.

The color wheel installation is not a simple task and would definitely void my warranty but I don't want to pay $400 to have it replaced. Has anyone replaced one themselves?

Finally, would Circuit City tell me if I had a warranty or not? I have no idea where my receipt may be as I've moved 3 times.

In order for you to purchase a warranty through Circuit City, your info has to be entered into their computers. You should be able to simply call your local store, give them your name, and maybe address, and they should be able to tell you what warranties you have purchased for any items you bought.

hmmm... I just found this thread and according to what I paid, I don't see how I could have gotten a warranty. https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...hlight=Samsung

Well, I replaced the color wheel and bulb on Saturday. Everything was going fine until I broke a small 4 pin connector in a hard to reach place. A 1-2 hour job took me about 5 hours. It was fun though and I'm glad I attempted it. The TV is silent as a mouse once again!
