My Sony KDL-40V2500 just died.
So I was watching a movie and all of a sudden the TV went dark. Tried to pull up the menu and change the video input...nothing.
Pulled out the manual and did a "reset", unplugged it for a few minutes, still nothing. Got online and chatted with Sony's tech support and they were no help.
Worst part of it is the TV was 1 year old April 18th, so the warranty is up....I am f'ing pissed!
I guess I'll be taking it in to see how much it will be to get it fixed or if I have to drop another $2k on a damn TV.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for the rant.

If you can't pull up any menus then it's a bad sign. On the bright side, you could get a decent tv for under $2K if you want now. May not be top of the line, but most likely will not leave you disappointed.

I have always been pretty partial to Sonys, all I have ever owned, but maybe this will change my mind.
At least if this would have happened a month ago I'd have a better shot at it being under warranty. I want to throw the damn thing out the window.

It's probably worth a call to Sony and if you state your case, politely, you might either catch a break or get the repair done at a discounted rate.
And if they say no, then pull out the "never be a Sony customer again" thing...
Nothing to lose at this point...

My suggrestions is to be EXTREMELY nice about it. Tell them how much you love your Sony products. Joke how you assumed the TV would have latest at least a few years. I bet they goodwill the repairs.

Thanks for the advice.
I'm going to take it in to one of their authorized repair centers tomorrow (the Sony tech rep said he had done all he could do over the phone and I would have to bring it in) to see what the deal is, then hopefully I can sweet talk them into something. It is seriously less then 1 year and 1 month old. I hope they can do something, I really like this TV.

Lol, yea, check and see how much it would cost to fix it. It may honestly be something really simple that may not cost that much. Then again, the whole TV could be dead.
If you end up buying a new TV, I've heard that Samsung's are great. Just throwing that out for you.

Well just dropped the TV off at a Sony Auth Repair center. They said they should know what is wrong in 3-5 days. They also said they have had good luck with Sony extending warranties.
Called Sony and they said they need a break down of what the repair costs will be before they can extend the warranty (guess they are just covering their asses).
We'll see
Last night I finished watching the Apple TV movie (Into the Wild), that I was watching when my TV died, on a 17" TV
(yeah Sony too
)

Might want to consider it if you still can...

Go to a different brand.
I was a Sony fanatic for some time ignoring the obvious and staying in denial. I had Sony for anything they made and I'm talking back to a 21" Trinitron when they came out. Phones, vcr's, dvd players anything Sony. Then one day when my wife pointed out that something "Sony" took a crap again, but that her Magnavox was still kickin'... I realized something. Every Sony product that I've owned has lasted no more than 5 yrs.
Not a one.
Now?....I won't own a Sony unless it's given to me. In other words I won't spend my money on one

When my L1 camera went on the blink after the warranty expired, Sony replaced it at no cost. My 42 inch Sony plasma crapped out and they had to order a whole replacement panel from Japan (I think NEC makes the plasma panels for Sony which is part of the reason why Sony doesn't do plasmas anymore). Took 3 months but was again covered although extended 2 year warranty had expired. So at least in my experience, service has been great even out of warranty with minimal dinero out of pocket.
I too am a Sony brand whore. T200 camera, ps3, 42 inch plasma, 20 inch inher for bedroom, etc. Looking at the Bravia XBR LCD for my next tv but after your story I might want to check around.

So, got the TV back today. So far good as new and (this might be cause I have only been watching TV on a 17" Sony HD LCD) the picture actually seems to look sharper.
Everything was covered by Sony, they extended my warranty to replace the a board in the TV, then they extended it again because they had to replace the entire LCD panel.
So it basically seems like it's a brand new TV except the case. So thumbs up for Sony customer service, thumbs down on the quality of the TV. Depending on how long this TV lasts after the repair will probably make my decision on if I stay a Sony whore.

yeah, between my parents and I we have owned 6 sony tvs, 1 had a minor issue after 8 years that was around $100-$200 to fix and obviously this last issue was a big one, but sony did come through.
