Samsung Ultra-Slim Wall Mount

I bought a 50" Samsung plasma this past week (PN50B860), and it's one of Samsungs ultra-slim form factor sets. I was really interested in buying their mount that keeps the TV only 1.8" from the wall (once mounted).

The mount is set to sell at ~$250 which is completely asinine. It's got to be 5 dollars in parts at most.

I found Amazon selling it for $130, which is still stupid expensive for what it is, but it's fair when paired to most other mounts on the market.

Checking to see if anyone has found a "knock off" of this mount. Even though I'd probably pay somewhere in the vicinity of $130 for any other mount, it's hard to swallow when this mount could probably be fabricated by anyone with relatively decent skills. However, I just don't trust my fabrication skills in making a mount to risk making my new plasma becoming a $1,500 paperweight.

Compared to the cost of the TV, the mount isn't that much money. It's not even 10% of the cost of the TV. If I was set on the style of that mount I would just get it.

Thanks, but I already did a quick search like that myself beforehand.
Nothing inherently wrong with the one you linked, but I was more interested if anyone had found nearly a direct knock-off copy of the Samsung version. Samsung's thin form factor sets seem to have taken off and I wouldn't have been surprised if a couple of AZ'ers had one themselves, and had any luck searching exactly for what I am. Reason I like it is because of the simplicity of it. It's not a huge ass bracket that you have to put even bigger holes in the wall for. That mount is almost just like anchoring and hanging a heavy picture.

Thanks though.

Yea.....I'm just cheap....ish.
If I don't get lucky here with my searching soon, I may just go for the Amazon buy.

I don't think $130 is that bad. Obviously they will be $60 within a few months but can you just leave the TV on the floor for that long?

I ended up picking up a Sanus (not ultraslim) for $69.99 on amazon. Couldn't be happier with it.

I think I spent near $100 for my Sanus mount, so that's not all that bad. I'd pay $200 for a near-flush mount like that....

It's on a console table right now, so it's not like it is just sitting on the floor. If it was, I probably would've already bought a mount.

I may just wait a couple months. Spring break actually might be a good time. I'm gonna do a power bridge whenever it is that I mount the set and I want to make sure I have enough time to do so. I wont start something if I can't finish it timely.

One of my co-workers also works at Best Buy.
She's gonna check to see what she could get it for at cost. I'll find out tomorrow whether I'll utilize her or buy from Amazon.

Congrats on the tv and mount.

Thanks moe!
Still haven't actually gotten the mount yet. At least not in my hands. Had my friend pick it up for me though. May see her tomorrow, so we'll see if I can do something with it then.

Well.
After waiting and waiting and checkin in with that co-worker of mine, she has yet to buy it. I just told her I'll order it myself.

I know she technically didn't have any obligation to use her discount, especially being that Best Buy is super strict with...just wish she would've let me know she was feeling uncomfortable about getting caught and having the $$ I gave her tied.

Oh well. Ordered it off amazon an hour or so ago. Will be here tomorrow.

I'll post pictures once I have it mounted and all.

I use to work for BB, and as long as she either pays cash or uses a card with HER name on it she has no chance of getting caught. Their system automatically picks up on a transaction that uses an employee code with a form of payment from someone other than the employee. Either way that sucks she strung you along like that

From what she told me, even other forms of payment (i.e. cash, credit w/ her name), they will sometime "investigate" it to see whether or not they would have the funds to purchase such a thing. I assume that's more reserved for things like TV's a whatnot. If 10 people gave her dough for 50" flat panels, but charged it on her credit card, I'm sure they would start to get suspicious. However, it costs $78. Oh well.

At least that's what she told me about the one that she works at.

And it's no big. I would've been nice to have it 3 weeks ago like I thought I was going to, but I'm not splittin hairs over it. UPS delivers it today, so I'm a happy camper.

Finally got it up!

Also got a cord cover that I painted the same as the wall to better conceal them. Still have a little bit of cord work under the unit and inside where I placed all of my gizmos. (cable box, xbox, hd dvd player, router, modem)

I was going to do a power bridge, but I just decided to do the wire cover. You can see it in the first picture. It's painted the same color as the wall.

Only reason I decided against the power bridge, is because I'm in an apt, and I don't want to have to screw with fixing the drywall whenever I leave. I'll be here I think another year and a half at most.

Looks freaking awesome. Slimmer than most things hung on a wall.

I got some swivel/tilt mounts for all my TVs and while I like the functionality, they stick out quite a bit more than I was expecting. Yours is WAY cleaner.

special thanks to whoever posted the link about the powerbridge special for AVS members. it's an awesome product.

the only problem is through that I have become addicted to the AVS forum and have discovered my system is very inferior. this addiction cannot be cured but may be lessened by throwing copious amounts of cash at the problem.

I've learned that AVS is a great place to look when you're doing research for things you already want to buy. But if you return after you buy for anything other than calibration settings or trouble shooting help, your bank statements are going to take a beating.

Sometimes you're better off just remaining blissfully-ignorant and happy with what you already have.
