Samsung DLP wont start

My parents TV wont start. It turns on as if its warming up and no picture.

The lamp is flashing green but the temp light is flashing RED.

Does that mean the fan to the lamp went bust?

Did you try reading the owner's manual?

I have a Sony rear projection LCD ... it's not shut off a few times (ie fan on, light still working) ... I did the unplug for 10 seconds then replug it in ... worked like a charm. Did that twice. Wonder why it didn't shut off properly both times.

LOL, was just about to post that it was time for a new lamp but you found the answer yourself

Did she buy the extended warranty with it? If so the bulb may be covered. That's the only reason I purchased the BB warranty as it will pay for itself in 2-3 years when my bulb goes...

Average is 1000-2000 hours. Keep in mind some could go for 3k while others may go out at 800, but that's the range you'll usually find...

JB, is this something you can change yourself?

And regarding the LED Sammy coming out. You said they last 20,000 hours. Can something be replaced at that point, like a bulb or are they trash?

When I bought my Samy DLP from Sears last week, the guy at Sears told me that about once a year the bulb will blow; just to call them up and they'll come replace it on-site.

It's very easy. There's an access panel on the side, just pop out the old bulb, pop in the new one...

Not sure about the LED light engine. I'm guessing they can be serviced after they go out, but I don't know for sure. I mean, 20k hours is similar to an LCD or Plasma TV... so it's not like it's a bad number.

This is one of the reasons I'm waiting on buying one is to see how this new technology goes since it just came out. By next year they should have it figured out

Once a year is a lot. I've had mine 14 months and know people who are over 2 years with their original bulb. Unless you watch TV 6-8 hours a day, you'll get good life out of it. We watch max 2 hours of TV per day (sometimes a little more in the winter) so we should be closer to 3-4 years, possibly even more for bulb life (many people have gotten 3000 hours out of a bulb).

FYI, unless you bought the extended warranty from Sears they'll charge you to come out and replace the bulb, and it won't be cheap, especially for on-site service (labor charges are high). You're better off buying the bulb online and replacing it yourself. It will save you quite a bit that way and it's easy to do.

Same with Best Buy. One bulb pretty much pays for the warranty.. and within 5 years, I may need two.. so I'll come out ahead

^Also best buy said they will come out and calibrate ours for free. We have had ours since last march and I would say it averages 4-6 hours of use a day, maybe more, and is still going strong(we have the 50 inch 720P with the pedastil attatched, best thing bestbuy had last march).

The LED light engine is pretty interesting, it will eliminate the rainbow effect(which I have only been bothered by once or twice) and the color wheel, and I believe I read would be able to be replaced.

Does ABT sell warranties even though you bought the TV elsewhere?
