I Cant Decide what TV to buy
The TV I have is not HDTV, I need something more current and bigger, its a 36 inch Sony WEGA, and Also if I get a TV With a Built in HDTV Tuner vs. Just a HDTV Monitor, will it upconvert all the signals that go in to 1080i or something, so even if I watch something thats not in HDTV, it will make it better resolution?
It wont make it look like HDTV, but it will make it look better than a standard analog setup. One thing to consider is that you can get an up-converting DVD player and jack hat into your tv with component video or HDMI and you will get a better picture. You can get an Up-convert for around $110...
I was in the same boat... kept my old 52 projection TV and added a DLP HD projector and an up-convert dvd player. Now we watch movies in (almost) HD and regular tv on the tv... saves bulb hours on the projector.

One of the samsung DLPs have a "Full HD 1280 x 720 digital format converter for all inputs", is that what you are looking for? Ive seen a few samsung DLPs that have them, and I would assume most would upconvert to 720p/1080i or so. The DLPs and LCDs 40" and under look great to me, the 60" DLPs show a lot of noise even on an HD signal and larger LCDs have bad viewing angles to me.

I will leave it to you plain and simple, its mostly for my parents they could give a jack about what HDMI is, they watch international programming on Dish and its not even in HDTV, so Just a Nice DLP is nice under 50 inches, And I was wanting a upconverting resolution TV because they watch mostly stuff in DTV and I want them to take the benefits of the TV

There are so many TV types and configurations out there right now that it is very very confusing. What you need to do is select a TV and just be happy with it. TVs are worse than computers used to be with the whole 'new stuff coming out every week'... just keep it simple, dont go overboard and most of all ENJOY WHAT YOU GET.....

It has the HDMI input for HD, and it has plenty of input jacks as well as composite input. You get 52 inches in a flat TV and it has DLP technology (very good picture quality with DLP) and it beats your budget.

If you're confused and don't know what to get your best bet is to go to the local Circuit City or Best Buy and let your eyes be the judge.
It sounds like you do not know much about the technology, which means you're probably an average TV user... so the little things that may bother us about certain TVs may not apply to you.
So I'd recommend going to your local TV store to see what looks the best to YOU... and going with that one...

I know someone that works at Target and I can get a discount so I am trying to go to Target.com and see whats the best thing for me and the 42 and 46 inch DLPs are interesting me
After reading some more about the samy 42 inch, I have decided to go for it. Also because I believe I am getting a pretty good deal.
Samsung 42'' DLP model HL-S4266W
I'll be getting the tv from amazon for 1248 - 100 amazon rebate - 30 dollar amazon credit card signup discount - 25 amazon gift card after I purchase the tv on the card + 0% APR for 6 months with the card.
I will be in the market for a flat panel tv in a year, so hopefully by then some issues might be addressed.
Thanks for replies everyone. I will post my experience with the tv after I use it.

If you're worrid about being good for the future, any 720p/1080i HD TV (which covers all HD TVs out now) will be good for you.
If you're worried about a little further into the future then you'll need to buy a 1080p TV, but expect to spend at least $2600 on those since they're new.
As badboy and others mentioned, you should be able to get a killer deal on a new TV since they're clearing out the 720p/1080i TVs for the new 1080p units....
That 42" Sammy DLP is a great deal...

Seems like a good deal and you can't beat the return policy at Costco. Any problems years down the line and you can return it for what you paid.
Plus if you have a decent sized room a 42" will look kind of small

), and the DLP is my favorite, followed closely by the plasma (only b/c the DLP is 50" and the plasma is only 42"). But both technologies (IMO) are better then LCD, especially when you go over 42" in size. My 17" LCD TV has a great picture, especially in HD, however, it's mainly b/c it's 17". Even so, the DLP and plasma have much more vivid colors then the LCD at this size, and the larger you go, the more you notice things, which is why I'm not a huge fan of LCDs as big screens. I even returned my Sony 60" RP LCD after 30-days b/c I did not like it. Picture was terrible compared to my DLP and plasma...Again, just my opinion, you'll need to go to a store and compare similar sizes from the different technologies to see what you like best.

I am surprised, because out of all the TV's I saw at Sams Club, the 37 inch Samsung LCD Really caught my eye, the blacks were deep and very good quality, the DLP's looked Grainy to me and I totally changed my mind about buying a DLP, I will have to go to Best Buy or something and look one more time
Well, 37" may be OK. I've only looked at large screen LCDs 42" + and was not impressed with any of them. I never looked into anything smaller with the exception of the Sammy 17" (office) and off-brand 15" (kitchen) LCD TVs we have... but those TVs are not even hooked up to cable boxes (now) and are just for quick viewing. So the 37" Sammy may be good choice. Both my DLP and Plasma are Sammy, so I'd always recommend them as a brand

^ Well, opinions are like assholes... everyone's got one
. And by increasing the budget you're opening a whole new can of worms.
Depending on what you're using the TV for I'd go with a Sammy DLP or an EDTV plasma. I've seen EDTV and HDTV plasmas next to each other and you can hardly tell them apart. Samsung makes a good one as does Panasonic, and both should be under $2k. Plasma will get you the best picture, then DLP, then LCD. IMO anyway. Some people may flip DLP and LCD around b/c, again, it's all about personal preference.
Otherwise I'd wait a bit for the new 1080p TVs to come down in price and scoop one of those up now. The 50" Sammy 1080p DLP is right around $2700 right now... so in a few months that should drop into your budget.

Well I got a question, If you watch mostly standard definition stuff and your 36 in Sony CRT Does the Job, will a Plasma, LCD, DLP even make a difference in viewing when you watch? or will it just be thinner and look cooler, because I am now thinking it is stupid to buy something else because HDTV's look nice, but only when you watch HDTV
SDTV can look like shit... It depends on the TV and the scaler that comes with it.
My old man's pioneer plasma, anything looks good. Much better than the picture on my Sony RPLCD.

If you're really only watching SD programming, don't even bother wasting your money on any of the above mentioned technologies. Stick with your CRT.
Some of the higher end plasmas look great with SD stuff. My plasma and DLP look very good also.. however, 85-90% of the time I'm watching HD programming, so the TVs look awesome. I would never spend that much money on a TV unless I was watching mainly HD content.
If you're not planning to watch much (or any) HDTV, you shouldn't even be considering an HD TV set. Makes no sense at all. It's like buying a new Corvette C6 as a commuter car in Manhattan. Sure it looks good, but you're not taking advantage of it's performance sitting in gridlock daily.

I just want something more crisp and thinner and a bigger size than the 36 inch we got, I saw the LCD's and they look nice, I have one and its 23 inches and normal shows dont look bad, they look nice to me, I guess it is a waste of money
