Samsung 56" DLP

We are looking to replace our old tv at the house with this one

Samsung 56" DLP

Does anybody have any experience as far as DLP's or this model are concerned.

Thanks in advance,

Christoph

I own the 46" Samsung DLP model from 2.5 years ago. It's a great set, really no problems. I know the technology has advanced since then with a better light engine and they've ditched the color wheel which made noises and had to be exchanged in some sets. Anything over 50" I would go with a DLP at this point.

So what would you rather have a 56" DLP or 56" LCD?

Without checking, I think a 56" DLP is under $2000 and a 56" LCD is over $4000. Above 46" LCD's start losing out to plasmas in PQ.

Where'd you buy it, and how much did you end up paying for it if you don't mind me asking.

I just found this site that is selling it for 1,599.00 which seems like a really good price to me.

I got mine from best buy as an open box plus I knew the manager so he hooked it up. The only thing not there was the remote. I paid $1099. Total after tax was $1287. I think I might of got the deal of the year.

You have to also factor in the cost of a really good surge protector, hdmi cable, stand, etc. That was about another $400 all said and done.

Worth every penny though

Very easy to install. Just like any other TV. I have yet to hook up the surround sound yet cause my neighbor is a dick and will call the cops. Im moving to a new house in a couple weeks and am going to set up a whole theater.

How bigt of a room is it you are planning to put the tv in? I have about 15 feet between my couch and the tv and its perfect.

Here she is in her current status.......

for some reason the tv doesn't even look that big...but then again the tires put it into perspective. I'm not sure how big the room is, its pretty big.

^^ I haven't talked to anybody who doesn't like this tv. You really cant beat 1,600 dollars for a 56" DLP 1080p. I cant wait to get it...once we get it (hopefully by next week) I'll need some suggestions for a nice 5.1 setup.

Thanks

I do have 1 complaint, when on 4:3 it has a slight hour glass effect, but after a good amount of research i'm told it's fairly normal on DLP's.

O ok...so would you buy the tv again if you could it all over again, or go for something different now? I'm not so technically informed with tv's so bear with me. Is regular television usually on 4:3...but hd isn't 4:3 right?

The bowing of a 4:3 picture is very slight and is due to the projection on a flexible screen. Kind of like shining a square flashlight on a slightly concave surface.

Good price but I think I have you beat. I found a brand new HL-S6187W for $1500 from Fry's Electronics about a month ago.

Mine is coming in 3 days. I got the one that uses an LED vice lamp, also in 56".

Still debating on whether to go cable or satellite for the HD.

i'm curious to what the price on the one w/ the LED is now Ginge, what did you pay?

it was 900 more then my non-led....i figured that money was better spent on a PS3 and some games

I paid $2400 Cdn delivered, though with the current exchange rate, I probably would have been better off buying from an on line, US-based store.

I don't see any difference in brightness compared to lamplit DLP's, It does turn on quicker, and I can't hear any kind of cooling fan (yet). But for $900, I think you are better off with the PS3!

This is now the wrong thread for me...but I love our new Philips 47" LCD 1080p with the ambilight. The picture is awesome, and I love the fact that it's on a swivel.
