Replacement TV question....

so, a few threads down, my bedroom TV is on its way out. I see alot of Sony Wega flat screen TVs and my question is, anyone have any experience with a Wega flat screen? Mine is a regular 32" Toshiba tube.

any comments.

well, am doing my research and came across a 42" Panasonic for $999 (with a $200 rebate). It is a Panasonic P42S1. Decent reviews. Here is my question though...

my cable box is in the living room with my HDTV. This will be for my bedroom and cable is from the wall. Will the TV still be in high def or do I need a cable box for that feature...

thanks.

Yeah, you'll need to get a high definition cable box to get high def on your new high def tv. You could get high definition via rabbit ears too. Expect the standard definition picture quality to be worse (yes, worse) on the new high definition TV too.

Well, that's not always true. Depends on your cable provider. I'm on Brighthouse networks Orlando. A lot of their HD channels are clear QAM so all you need is a TV with a QAM (digital cable ready) tuner. I highly recommend going over to the AVSforum and looking around there. They also have threads dedicated to the major cable providers. I'll bet if you look around or ask in there, they'll know for sure.

And unfortunately some standard definition programming looks worse on an LCD than it did on the tube. I've heard that's especially true of DirecTV, but I can't vouch for it personally.

I would go with the LCD TV's instead of plasma just for the weight savings. I think the Panny is over 100pds while a similar size LCD TV would be about 50pds.
