Is this a printer problem??

My situation:
-Have a MacbookPro
-Have a Canon MP520 hooked up to the Mac through Airport Express

I know for sure that I am not able to send a message from my Mac to the printer through Airport to tell it to scan something, but for some reason I can't get the printer to scan period...even when it is hooked up through hardwire. I don't know if this is because I initially set it up on AirPort and so it won't scan, but I go through the little menu on the printer, select black ink, tell it to scan, and nothing happens. It just sits there like on a bump on a log and doesn't do anything. The menu doesn't change either. Stays the same. If this helps in diagnosing the problem, when I USB'd the printer to Mac just a minute ago, the Mac didn't pick up the printer as an external device. Didn't even recognize there was something there.

Makes me think it is something with the printer but I'm not sure.

It has been solely printing just fine, but when I tried to scan some documents just recently, , that's what I feel like.

Yes, to be able to print period, I had to download the latest version of Gutenprint...

....unless you mean I have to download a driver from Canon

Hmmm...I just downloaded the latest driver from Canon, but that didn't do anything.

When talking about drivers, you typically just have to install the most recent one correct?? You don't have to install all the previous ones do you??

Regardless, downloading the most recent one from Canon didn't seem to work either.

Alright, so I (think...*knocks on wood) got it working...for now at least. It's still acting querky...I had to install some other driver and apparently I didn't finish the installation of the driver sent with the printer....I don't know. I know I went through everything, but I apparently I didn't. ha

I'll be posting another reply if I still have trouble
