Peerless/OmniMount/Sanus

Which one is best? I want to hang a 46" LCD TV with an articulating arm and want to make sure I get a good mount that can step up to the job. From what I can tell Peerless seems to fit the bill but want to make sure I'm getting the right thing since I'm not a mount expert.

I HATE peerless mounts more then just about any out there. They are a pain in the ass and typically feel cheap. I always recommend Sanus. They feel the most solid and are well put together.

Sanus doesn't have more choices, and from what I'm reading Peerless is top dog. Do you have anything that raves about Sanus?

Yeah, me. I rave about them. They do have a wide array of brackets. I use on average, 10 a week. So I know them quite well. I also use Omni and prefer the Sanus. It is easier to work with. I have used all sorts of Peerless brackets, and every one of them had an issue one way or another. They don't feel as sturdy, they are more difficult to work with, and typically hard to come by. Last time I installed one, I had to go with Peerless. It was for a 60 inch plasma on an articulation arm. The only one in stock anywhere at the time was the Peerless. Peerless uses their locking allen screws (the screw has a hollow end with a peg so that your allen key has to be hollow on the end to fit). They are suppose to ship with a long allen key so you can use these screws, but this bracket didn't. I was lucky, I had one in my van from a previous job. A regular guy would have been stuck and had to wait for them to ship the item. I really have had NO problems with Sanus and like I said, over 3 years, I am probably close to a thousand brackets used overall if not more.

I know what you meant. I am telling you I don't need any articles to tell you which is better. I have used them all, and can give my own review. Reviews typically mean who was given the largest "cash reward" to print theirs is the best. Do you really believe Panasonic tv's are better then Pioneer? Reviews seem to point that way quite often. Get whatever you wish, I am just trying to lend a helping hand from someone who has a lot of experience with this.

I actually have read the other way, Pioneer better than Panny

I don't even know what you do (at this point I'm assuming you're an A/V installer) so I can't just believe you blindly. I'm not going to drop $250-$400 on a piece of metal that holds my expensive TV without being careful and asking questions. Relax man

I was having a rough day yesterday, sorry for my "snippiness". Yes, I am an A/V installer. I have been doing this for 3 years, and done quite a few tv hangs. Yes, Pioneer blows away the Panny, and yes, the Sanus blows away the Peerless. You have my word that you will not be dissapointed if you go with the Sanus. The model I recommend is the VMPL50. It may have a b or s on the end of the model number, that states whether it's black or silver. The plate itself is made of a thicker metal then the peerless, and is very easy to use. This is the plate mounted on a wall:

You can see that this is a true universal mount. It is probably in the neighborhood of 30 inches long, I haven't measured it so not exactly sure. You beams should be 16 inches on center, which gives you plenty of room to manuver. It also has the big circular holes, that you can use to run your wires through as I was in the process of doing in that picture. With a tilt mount, you can see a plate above or below the tv. If you use the hole in the center, between the arms on the tv, you cannot see a single wire from the side, except maybe the power. For power, by the way, always install above the plate. The reason being is that you want to be able to tilt the tv, if you install it below the plate, you run the risk of the power cord extending too far out and interfering with you being able to tile the tv. Anyway, if you have questions, feel free to ask away.

Based on my needs, I think the Sanus VMAA18 works best. Articulating, and extends about 19"-20" out. How do you feel about this mount?

It's a good bracket. I've done plenty of them. It is heavy duty. Often the bracket weighs more then the tv itself. It is very solid, and easy to work with. I can't remember if it comes with clear directions on how to put it together, as I haven't used them in a long time (directions that is, not the bracket. I use them all the time). If you have any trouble with it, let me know and I can walk you through it. I am sure you'll figure it out though, it's not bad at all. One thing that is nice about that bracket is there are a couple of allen screws on the back that you can loosen to level the tv. It is hard with some articulation arms to get perfect. This helps. You want have that center bar pretty much in the middle of the tv though. If you don't, you may have the tv levelled perfectly when in a straight position, but when you turn it, it will unlevel itself.

I bought from Adorama.com, the site had good reviews so I thought what the hell. All in all wish shipping I got it for $247, not bad, esp since most places are selling the mount for $330 + shipping.

If that mount sucks, it is 100% user error.

That bracket is essentially useless IMHO. The arm is so short that you cannot really angle the tv at all. If you are looking to go with an articulating arm, go with the one that will soon have ctlgo praising me

Didn't get it yet. Guess its out of stock right now. Thought about it and decided to go with a tilt mount instead. Got the Sanus VMPL50 in black. $91 bucks through Amazon, its in stock and free shipping, comparable to other places within a few bucks. Probably get it by early next week. Saved myself about $175 going with a tilt mount.

I was looking through the Sanus mounts on Amazon and they range from ~$70 to ~$190. They all look the same, what's the difference?

That is my favorite bracket. It is the one in the picture I posted. Just a tip, when you mount the arms on the tv, screw the safety screws all the way, and then unscrew them. Sometimes they ship with a little too much paint in the screw hole and it can be a pain to get the safety screw in once it is in the wall if you don't clear the extra paint out.

The first three are the same, the only difference being color, silver or black. The fourth one is a flat mount, it doesn't tilt at all. The 5th is not a Sanus. The 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th are all the same again, just different colors and coming from different distributers.

Oh, and $91 for a VMPL50 is an excellent price. That is right around my dealer cost.

a couple had it listed as just vmpl50. The others were either vmpl50s or vmpl50b. The letters at the end just designate silver or black.

Yes, I got it, I have not mounted it yet, I had my dad's drill, he needed it back and I forgot to get it from him

But I've ordered a new one, so I'm hoping I get it by this week so I can install this weekend. I read all the instructions and it looks real simple to do, just need to measure everything out and figure out speaker mounts and what not. I'm OCD about these things so it may be a while.

Mounted it last weekend, the TV looks fantastic on the wall.
Process was really simple, I mounted it myself and it looks great in the room. Haven't taken pics yet because I recently moved and I can't find the charger to my camera. But otherwise it looks great!

Its pretty solid. The ONLY thing I don't like is there is no way from preventing the TV from sliding side to side, given the weight of the TV prevents some of this but its only 50 or 60 lbs, I can easily slide it with my hand. The security bolts just prevent someone from putting the TV off the wall, which I wouldn't even consider a security bolt because its a standard allen wrench size.

The tv can slide side to side, but it cannot slide off the bracket. There are stops on the side. I have worked with brackets where you cannot slide it at all, and trust me, having that ability is a godsend. You have to be precise to the millimeter in your measurements or it will not look centered with those brackets. With this, you measure, install, and then slide it right or left until centered. The safety bolts aren't there to prevent people from stealing it or anything, just to prevent someone from pulling out and then off the wall. They work quite well. Show us some pics when you get a chance.

Excuse my shitty pics. The TV is level, I was sitting in the sofa when I took the pic so I didn't have the camera held straight

I still need the mount the speakers to the wall, and move the TV stand since I think its off center. As for the 360, I'm returning the Premium to Costco (where I bought it) cause I bought the Elite. Unless you want to buy it from me
