New TV Time

So I was looking at TV's. Anyone hear of the brand Haier? I can get this TV....
http://www.haieramerica.com/product....&productid=291
For under $800. I don't have HDTV & don't plan on getting it anytime soon. I only watch basic analog cable & DVD's. I like the thiness of a plasma & the 42" screen. I looked at it in the store & it looks fine to me.
My budget is $800 this looks to be teh biggest thin TV I can get at that price. I figure for what I use it for this TV will be fine for me.
Suggestions??

Thanks

Never heard of it and I shy away from off-name brands... especially waaaay off-name brands. Only one I would ever consider is Vizio. For a budget off-brand TV they usually get good reviews pretty consistantly.

Also a tip... most plasmas below $2k do not look that good with analog cable. Heck, even some of the expensive ones don't look good with analog. You may want to look into an LCD if that is how you watch TV. I've seen 5 year old CRT TVs that look better then some plasmas when viewing analog signal... so something to keep in mind.

Unless I Want a 32" LCD they are out of my price range. A 32" LCD would be a smaller picture then my 36" crt right?
Will the picture look better or worse compared to my 36" crt?

Yup, your 36" 4:3 screen would be a larger then a 32" widescreen.

As for the picture being better or worse... it's a crap shoot. Odds are it being worse, but there's no way to know since I highly doubt there are a lot of reviews out there for that brand TV.

FYI, something like this (posted in another topic) wouldn't be bad if you could up your budget a bit. Still an off-brand, but actually a pretty decent one...
