New Kid's TV?

My kids old school 19 incher just died. I started looking around and the cheapest tube tv is like 150. I can get a 20 inch HDTV LCD for only another 100 more. If I did that, I'd pick up another D* HDTV DVR for her.

Or I can pick up something off of Craigslist for under 50. But those might crap out on me right away.

Thoughts?

Personally, I'm leaning towards getting the HDTV LCD.

My daughter is only 5 and I'm going to get her a 20in LCD when the 13in tube craps out. I find myself watching shows in there with her and I just can't stand watching a 13incher even for only a few minutes.

Off topic.. Whiskers.. is it official you're in the states for good now? Yardley is just down the road from me. I live in Hamilton, NJ

lightning killed my 19" playroom TV and my 32" bedroom TV (both CRTs). I got a 19" from CL for $20 and a 32" for $150.

She is 4, but like Evader said, we end up having the tv on when we're up there playing w/her. She is like my wife and I....she likes the tv on for background noise. Except for right before bedtime, she is not paying too much attention to it.

I've got to go to Costco today, so I'm going to see what they have in the LCD range.

My wife has said my son will never have a TV in his room. He's almost eight, though he does have almost free reign of the TV in the LR.

look in your local Craig's List first... I got a 24" Sharp Aquos a few months ago off CL and it was a pretty good deal... my only regret was not making him a lower offer... it's a couple years old, but the picture is excellent.

My family grew up without TVs or telephones in our rooms and, honestly, I didn't care at all...I never asked for one or missed having one there. It kept us from spending 20 hours isolated in our rooms, needing it to fall asleep, and relying too, too much on TV to keep us entertained. It also taught us to share the main TV (although we also had one in the basement that wasn't used as often). I don't want a TV in my room as an adult, either. It's a place where you go to be away from extra stimulation...to relax and sleep.

For such a young child, I'd just get the cheapest ($$) thing you can find. No way I'd invest in anything more in this instance. That's just me though... She won't analyze the quality or name brand. Save the money for your main entertainment centre, where they whole family can enjoy a higher quality unit.

Good ole Flemington Car and Truck Country... I went to school with the kid whose father owns (or at least he did at the time) all of those dealerships. That is like owning half the town

I'd only consider a tube if you had a real big hard-on to decorate the room with Disney or Spongebob for those kids' TV's. Or I'd consider CL for a very, very cheap/free TV. To spend $250 on an LCD though, hopefully your kid isn't throwing stuff in her room and knows not to touch the screen.

I know way too many people who's kids are TV zombies....in their rooms, in the car...everywhere. They can't function without it. It's very sad.

So I picked up a 19 inch Dynex (Best Buy's brand) for $230. It actually has very good reviews on both the BB and AVS forums. I'll hook it up by the weekend and report back then.

As for the "kids having tvs" comments....obviously everybody is entitled to their opinion, but we believe in moderation in everything. She is a way normal kid who loves playing outside, w/friends, w/us, w/herself, but she likes to unwind before bed with a Clifford, Dora, or Diego. Somehow, I doubt that will scar her for life

Besides, she is used to our 61 inch in our BR and our 50 inch plasma in the Great Room. We dig HDTV in our household

Definitely down for a meet.. Always looking for a new friends for my daughter to play with... (don't let your perverted mind get in the way, lol)

I don't have the TL up here anymore though. Turned the TL in early (lease) and bought another tl-s (wdp) that is actually staying in virginia for the time being. Anyway, I usually take my daughter to the park on weekends and I need to get to sesame pl. before the season's over... we have passes and have yet to use them yet.
