New Apartment- Help pick a TV

Hey guys,

I am getting a new apartment next month and have decided to go with a new flatscreen for the living room. I live in NY so of course the room will be small. 19'9''X13.

I'm open to any type of TV, make or model. I've been told to go with LCD, specifically Samsung and have done some light research and though this looked interesting.

http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-t...-32514516.html

I'm looking for size information (how big should I get?) and type/model recommendations.

Money is not really a huge factor. I mean I don't want to spend 5K, but if one is a couple hundred dollars more than another, it's not a big deal.

Let me know if you need other detail.

Thanks guys!

Room diagram? How far will you be sitting from the TV? Wallmount or stand?

Samsung LN-T4681F is 'old'. You will want to look at the LNxxa650, LNxxa750 or the LNxxa850 or LNxxa950 (new and I know nothing about them)

thanks man

I will def be mounting on a wall. The room is a standard rectangle. I will porbably be no farther than 10 feet from the TV due to room size.

i think you could go up to 50" if your budget allows. I'm a fan of Plasma. I play my PS3 on it all the time with no IR (image retention aka burn-in)...I have a Panasonic 1080p 50" plasma and Blu-Ray movies look SICK on it! I encourage you to check it out at least.

Since you're not getting much response here, i would suggest checking out www.avsforum.com

^ TONS of threads to search for and you'll get a much more "knowledgeable" response!

Good luck!

The new Samsung LN55A950 is getting some great reviews from people that have seen it in person. It's brand new and just hitting some stores as we speak. They also have a 46". The beauty is the Touch Of Color on the 950 is charcoal gray, not red. Word is there are deals on these already. The 55 retails for $4200 and some people are getting them for mid 3's, mid 2's for the 46".

Already did all this last weekend.

The 950 series is AMAZING. But its also $$$ the 46" will set you back $3200.

The 750 is very nice...but still uses a flourescent tube...old technology.

The LNT6681F might be one model year old...but its still a fucking amazing TV. As a matter of fact in trying to decide whether to go with the 950 or the 81F...my friend ended up choosing the 81F.

Why. Because the store still had one new in the box and sold it to him for $2250 including a 4 year warranty.

No, it doesnt have the faster refresh rates the 750 and 950 has...but it has the contrast/black levels the 950 has, along with being LED backlit.

And really...not too many people are going to notice the refresh rates watching TV or movies.

You can get the 81F for great deals if you look in the right place. Go to local high end shops...Like the 950...its a "special" model that only high end dealers get...if you see them online, they are usually sketchy places.

Great info Sarlacc, thanks

I'm still leaning towards the 81F. What about the 650?

older version of the 750 if I remember correctly...flourescent backlit...slower refresh rates.

Only the 81F and the 950 are LED backlit.

Guys don't mistake the MSRP on the 950 models as the street price. Check the AVS forums out, there are 2 threads regarding the 950 series. Some retailers are already discounting and the TV has been out less than a week. Might as well get the 120HZ and the LED for the same money as an 81. The 650 and 750 although great TV's, have a few issues, not to mention the ugly red bezel.

I dont really believe the TVs are going THAT low for having just come out last weekend. Not at any place reputable anyway.

I could be wrong, but if it sounds too good to be true...

i'd go at least 46" even if the room is small.

i bought a 40" samsung lcd a few months ago (530 model), and even though i sit about 7ft from the tv, i wish i had spent a bit more and gotten the 46.

I got an amazing deal on my 40" over 1.5 years ago. So, I have no regrets. But a 46" would have been really perfect.

A couple of peeps preordered from ABT and got the deal, also a few were allowed to use there BB 10% off coupons at BB Magnolia. It amounts to a nice litte $420 or $320 discount depending on the 55" or 46". Those are both reputable places. I'm starting to hear that Samsung may be putting the clamps on this though. Afterall, it's thier top of the line LCD, and still not widely available yet.

Samsung LNxxA650 and LNxxA750 came out at the same time and are the same TV. The 750 adds:
New -- Internal flash memory (1GB) with pre-loaded interactive content such as cooking recipes, children's entertainment, HD artwork and more (who cares)
New -- Integrated woofer for an enhanced audio experience
New -- DLNA-Compatible: for better interopability with electronics, computers and mobile devices from many different manufacturers

Om amazon right now the 46' 750 is only $70 more then the 650 version (it used to be 200-300 difference).
$1860, free shipping (but you might have to pay tax now in NY): http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LN46A7...9326605&sr=8-1
