need help with wall mount

so i got a 32" lcd tv and want to mount it but i do not know anything about wall mounts. i don't want to purchase a mount and have it fall off the wall due to quality, or in proper installation

i was hoping someone would recommend a few. my requirements is that it can tilt down a little. but ideally, i would also like one that would swing out 90 degrees from the wall too, but not required.

First I would recommend you check out Omni mounts. Typically I like Sanus brackets, but I don't think they have a large selection of articulating arms. I could be wrong though. There are a ton of different brackets out there, Omni and Sanus being two of the biggest. And articulating arm (which swings out) will run you more money, in some cases more then double, but not always. You want to get yourself a stud finder. You will also want to have an electrical outlet installed next to where the tv will be hanging, especially if you do an articulating arm. There are actually quite a few things I could tell you, why don't you pm me with any specific questions.

Go with omnimount. They have 3 different styles of cantilever wallmounts for your size TV.

They come with easy to read instructions and a drilling template theres really not much to it.

Basically you just need a stud finder, a level, a drill, and a socket wrench.

I mounted a 32" LCD in my daughters room with a mount I got from Best Buy for $89 or so. It tilts nicely and was easy to install. Basically, I screwed 2 included screws vertically into a stud. I was very happy with the installation and it was quick and easy.

Would you do an articulating arm or would you do a flat or tilt mount?

I'm leaning toward a flat mount but I'd consider an articulating arm if it could be mounted in the corner of the bedroom and not look too odd/big. Do you have any pics of any of the ones you have mounted?

I have a lot of different pics of tv's I've mounted. Not sure if it's better to post them here or pm you. I have posted some of the ones I have installed in the past.

I recently ripped down my old mantle and built a new one to house a plasma. I ended up using an OMNI Mount (the 200lb flat mount one) and think it's a great product. Easy install, secure (to the wall and because it has a locking mechanism), more than enough parts for any tv. It's probably the best "universal" anything I've ever bought.

I'll post another thread in H&G one of these days with the mantle build, but here's a few pictures after the new mantle was basically built and secured to the wall and one after the TV was attached:

OMNI:

After with the TV mounted:

-- Yeah, I know... I'll get to the switchplate and get something for the cable box, etc later. I just finished the painting yesterday and the marble today.

Looks good. I like the color you chose for the walls. It really sets off the white of the fireplace and accents the tv nicely.

Here is a series of pics from an install we did today. It was a very basic install, so I had some time to take some pics as we were working.

This is the plate mounted on the wall. The bracket is a Sanus VMPL50s (s is just for the silver vs the black which has no s). I like this one the best, very easy to use. Notice the lines above the bracket directly over the bolts. These were markings of where the beams were, which were found using an ordinary stud finder.

Here you see the plate with the fiberglass glow rod down the wall, with the wires attached at the bottom. The channel cut out of the sheetrock is to run a wire for satellite in the wall so it will not be exposed once the cabinet is in front. I screwed the sheetrock back in later, but the customer is having someone tape and paint.

This picture is just showing after the wires were pulled up the wall.

This pictures is just a little close so you can see how the wire looks coming out of the hole in the bracket. Some brackets do not have holes or are not big enough. It is nice to be able to use these holes as it is hidden by the tv and easy to stuff any excess wires in the wall.

This shows the arms on the back of the tv that is part of the bracket kit.

This is just a side angle of the arms. The best way to measure height is to either measure from the bottom of the tv to the inside arch of the hook, or from the top to that same point. In this case, we wanted the tv even with the top of the windows, so we measured from the top down. Use a level and put it on the top of the tv and use a measuring tape and measure from that level to the arch of the hook like I said.

This is a side view of the plate so you can see how it attaches. The hooks slide over the top rail and supports the tv. The bottom of the arm just slides under the bottom rail (there is no hook on the bottom). You then screw two safety screws up to "lock" the tv in. You can still slide the tv side to side until it hits the stop, but you cannot pull the tv away from the wall with these safetly screws in. If anyone uses this bracket, do yourself a favor and completely screw these in while the tv is on the floor. They get paint in the hole a lot and it is VERY tough to screw them in if on the wall (they use a allen key rather then a screw driver)

The bracket is a tilt bracket, so you can tilt it all the way back to get access behind the tv.

Another angle of the tv, you can see the tilt a little better here.

Sheetrock is screwed back in and ready to be taped and painted. Wallplate is in place (although the bottom screw wasn't in for some reason at this point so it looks like it is not level at this point).

Here the tv is hanging now, with the wires tucked up inside so nothing is showing.

And the finished product.

Note:
In most cases we put a power outlet behind the tv. In this case the customer preferred that we use their power strip, so we ran the wire inside the wall. You have to check code in your town to see if that is allowable though.

bring an old thread back to life....

My GF wants to mount her 32" Sony with a bracket that swivels out since her dresser is directly under where the TV is. She already has the composite cable in place, with an outlet for the TV right next to it. I have to check, I think there is a 2 rectangular faceplates for the cables and power outlet, so I have to check which mount will allow for clearance.

Are there any particular screws I should be using to mount this LCD TV to the wall? I am looking for the bracket now (I read the other threads and this one about particular brands). I am kind of nervous doing it, but only because I have one shot to get it right or her Dad is going to be pissed at me.

Any tips of what I should be doing? I have a stud finder, but am still a little nervous. Thanks for the tips guys!
