HDMI Cables?

I want to buy HDMI cables. I need one for my HD Direct TV receiver and one for my PS3. Which ones are you using?

alot of ppl will tell you get monster

however if you go to walmart (if there's one by you)
you can get rca and phillips hdmi for much less than the 150 dollar monsters...

A Monster will run you about $100. You can get a 24 gauge, 6 ft. cable for about $25 on monoprice.com.

I was checking out the cables over at Monoprice.com. They are cheap.Just wondering if they are any good. I dont want to go and spend $150 when a $16 cable can be just as good if not better.

IIRC, there are several positive testimonials both here and at AVS about the cables from Monoprice.

Monoprice is absolutely one of the best places to get cables. A couple guys on avsforum even disected both monorprice cables and monster cable to compare. They found no noticeable differences. The quality is basically the same, without the 10000000000000% markup.

Yep, I can vouch for monoprice as I bought the $5/piece 6' cables and full 1080p looks incredible. I even bought their HDMI 5 port switch and it works great!

It's exactly what it sounds like... a switch which allows multiple HDMI inputs. Say your TV only has 1 HDMI input. All you do is buy a switch, plug it in, and bam, multiple inputs. So hooking up a 5 port HDMI switch allows you to now have 5 HMDI inputs off of the 1 TV input.

Yep, my TV has 2 inputs but I just wanted to be safe.
Now I have the switch and plugged into that I have my PS3, Cable Box, and DVD player. Maybe next will be an HD HVD player... who knows

I got a $20 Impact Velocity 6.5 ft cable through Amazon. I keep on coming across reviews dissuading people from buying the overpriced Monster HDMI cables.

I thought HDMI is an all digital format? I'm not very farmiliar with it. Is there an analog signal being passed through the cable?

HDMI carries digital video and audio in the same cable, also supports Dolby 5.1.

Well, heck, we need to tell them to make less soccer balls, and more HDMI cables.

Question: Does cable quality make a difference in picture quality...? I'm quite sure it doesn't but just want to make 100% certain with the experts here.

Only to an extent. A $120 Monster HDMI is not better than a $20 Monoprice HDMI. But a new 3 foot coaxial connection will be better than an old 20 foot coax cable. It's all about signal degradation and most of the time it is miniscule.

I think it makes more of a difference on analog signals. If noise is getting into a cable carrying analog it will give you a wavy picture/off colors/snow etc.

With digital the 1's and 0's are either going to get there or not. So if noise is screwing up your cable you will get a blocky picture or a black screen.

One thing you want is a cable that makes a nice tight connection to whatever you are connecting it too.

^ How is your HDTV box from Comcast hooked up to your TV? In other words, what kind of cables are currently running from your cable box to the TV?
